Thomas set to return

Thomas appears set to exercise option to stay on South Side

Unless Thomas hears some surprising news from agent Arn Tellum in the next few days, he will exercise his option for a $6 million, one-year deal from the Sox and stay on the South Side for at least one more season.

The 35-year-old designated hitter/first baseman has told several current teammates, and at least one former teammate, that early reports indicate this offseason's free-agent market is not favorable for players. That's why, in all likelihood, Thomas will remain with the Sox.

"Chicago is where he wants to be," one Sox player said Monday. "Unless something changes in the next few days ... he's telling us that he'll be back."

"Frank was hoping to see what was going to happen with the other (Sox) free agents by now, and who the manager would be, but he said his mind is made up," a former teammate of Thomas said. "Frank's one of those guys that likes being comfortable, and he's comfortable with the Sox."

aren't we lucky?

more home runs.

and more DPs and pop outs to short right field.

Only if we're getting the hit to all fields, hit for average, not pull the ball, or swing for the fences Frank than Okay by me

No surprise whatsoever.

No market out there for DH's.

Seattle can plug their DH hole for less than what Thomas would want.

I just hope he comes into camp with his head on straight and in shape.

Remember...."some people were BORN to hit"...... .260.......

Well there's $6 mil wasted....

What a bunch of idiots you guys are.

At $6 million, Thomas is a bargain.

His .952 OPS was 6th in the league.

Just look at how much every other hitter who can hit 40 homers and walk 100 times a year is making.

Buy a freaking clue, morons.

Do you even know how to use a comma, idiot?

I don't know the name and it says post 1 so welcome to soxtalk! :cheers :cheers :cheers

it also says you average 218 posts a day - so I should know your name since that would be an incredible number of daily posts that even our most avid members have never met - odd computer glitch that it posts that average for a new member!

If I may make a suggestion - I myself would agree with your statements that

The other lines of your post you could do without - not designed to win friends and influence people much. Just a suggestion.

welcome again to soxtalk

You, done got him, did'nt you, :D

By the way, where was our $6 million dollar DH during the last Twins series?

Oh yea, he had his head buried in a bucket of balls the whole time...

Frank

Yep, all Frank's fault....

Did we really expect anything different. I mean, if both myself and the team had the option to excersise the contract and it seemed apparent that the team would not than I would certainly exercise my option.

Frank, said he wanted to stay because he feels comfortable, right. He wants to stay because he and his agent know there is nothing out there for him. Maybe something will inspire him and he will begin to play with the team rather than for himself.

Some douchebag that has no friends in the world so he will strive to be a pain in everyone's ass becasue nobody pays attention to him. He will come back in a month and tell us we should trade Joe Crede for Fernando tatis or something worthless just to try and get everyone pissed off so he can giggle and play with his imaginary friends.

Not all his fault, but our so-called "franchise player" should perhaps show up for once in a clutch situation. Wait, that would be too much to ask for.

Your welcome.

Gee, neither Tom nor Kerry have that much anger built up Jeff, tired of living in their shadows? :P

As for Frank, I always liked Frank and gave him the benefit of the doubt, but I have a feeling he isn't very good for the team. You keep hearing how all the problems in the clubhouse stem from Frank. He seems to be a bit much, like the other slugger from the other team across town.

I don't see what's wrong with keeping Thomas as long as he is in the right spot in the batting order.

Someone needs to get through to him that he is NOT a #3 hitter anymore. If he wants to hit home runs, he should hit in the #4 or #5 spot in the order when he'll come up with 2 outs and runners on more often. This way, his pop outs and ground balls don't necessarily kill us, and his homers give us that extra lift to give us a little momentum and hopefully have a big inning.

I personally have no problem with Frank going trying to hit homers(other then the fact that we have the second closest thing to SamME So-So right here on the South Side). Afterall, homers are the quickest and easiest way to get runs on the board. You just can't try to do it on every f***in pitch like we did in that last series against Minny.

I for one want to see frank finish out his career here, it just wouldn't be right seeing him in anything but black and white pinstripes.
