Getz interview...

Featured Replies

Said some interesting things, sounded better than at his press conference yesterday:

Any specifics about analytics, scouting, Dominican Republic, Pacific Rim, talent development?

At this point we're left hoping for Boston and/or Katz to be gone.

A pitching coach with an all encompassing philosophy change for the entire system would be another necessary piece since they won't be buying any quality FA pitchers to repair the rotation.

He is “open to bringing in new voices to the organization.” He believes Jerry is supportive of the changes that will need to be made. He said he hasn’t spoken to Dayton Moore but believes he’s among the most respected voices in the game and they would be lucky to have someone like him. He also said he wouldn’t be closed minded to bringing in different voices to the organization. He did not mention specifics around analytics, scouting or player development going forward.

Much better job.

Dayton Moore does have a good idea. His whole porn crusade is ridiculous but he isn’t near as bad as people make him out to be on this site. If we actually see Getz bring ina. Variety of flavors from different orgs and actually beef up the development and scouting and analytics departments that would start to get me to feel a lot more comfortable.

Don’t forget Moore earned his chops for a long time in the highly respected Braves org.

Everything goes back to John Schuerholz with Atl.

That said ... the Atlanta connection was ALSO Nick Hostetler's biggest selling point.

And looking at Royals' drafts the last decade under Moore, Witt Junior has been almost the lone success.  A number of pretty high first rounders that haven't even sniffed the big leagues.

In some ways...Royals hitting on that run of first rounders in the late 00's along with Sal Perez was almost as improbable as the Sox run of Ventura Thomas Alex Fernandez etc.

He needed to say that Grifol and all the coaches have been fired.
I’m also surprised that JR and Getz never put any blame on the players who bottom line are the guys who are on their way to losing 100 games.

Problem to me is Moore isn’t a different flavor from different orgs. One of the more similarly run groups to the Sox.

And the braves way ran into its own end within the braves. Except they value winning over a system so they evolved quite a bit in the mid 00s. It would be like running a Walsh west coast system instead of shanahan in football terms.

JR pretty much said as much in his press conference when he said they were going to start policing players' offseason plans instead of just taking their word for it. To me, that is a not-so-subtle way of saying at least some of these guys aren't doing what they should be doing to prepare themselves for the season.

While Moore had a good two year run with some real innovation, his full rebuild process getting to that took what 7 years? And that was followed by a 7 season period from 2016-2022 of being actually worse than the White Sox? After 7 years of top 10 draft picks, plus extra picks for revenue sharing and small market teams, plus being out of the race so they should be taking advantage of the trade deadline to add talent, their system was bottom 5 in baseball and their team was bottom two. This doesn’t even look good compared with Rick Hahn, if you’re that bad for that long you should build up talent by complete accident.

While it’s only an allegation, this record after 2015 is so poor that it makes the idea that he was specifically trying to draft and sign outspoken Christians as a priority way easier to believe.

Christian Colon over Chris Sale

local product Bubba Starling high first round

The first-round selection of the KC Royals in 2011 made it to the majors last season. Three players available when KC picked him have collectively won eight All-Star berths, six Silver Sluggers and two Gold Gloves.

Aaron Crow over Mike Trout

Then we have Foster Griffin, Chase Vallot, Ashe Russell, Nolan Watson, Asa Lacy, Frank Mozzicato, Gavin Cross and Blake Mitchell.

The White Sox look like Robert Oppenheimer vs. Booger Presley from Revenge of the Nerds in amateur draft science.

The best you can say is Witt and Brady Singer has been up and down like Michael Kopech...

When I heard this I couldn’t believe they weren’t already holding players accountable in the off-season.
