March 3, 20251 yr I mean, I hope he heals up and don't wish him ill. At the same time, eh. Lets a young guy try to succeed.

Not trying to be a troll. Do you really believe that Getz thinks Slater is better than Soto, Santander or Hernandez? Or is it more likely that he is doing what he can with the budget JR gave him including all of the organizational improvements?

I was referring to an outfielder that would have cost next to nothing that the Cubs DFA, not large free agent outfielder signings.

All of the prospects people say that he wasn't worth it as the swing and miss was too great. Hence the reason he only brought back cash. It's a valid point though. At least Slater had a track record of some mlb value.

In what will likely be another 100 loss season, I’d rather see what a 24 year old outfielder can do rather than yet another veteran retread in Slater, who won’t net you anything of value at the trade deadline anyways. Slater isn’t exactly a lock to perform any better than him anyways, based on his mediocre to bad past two seasons. No risk and no reward. Edited March 4, 20251 yr by WhiteSox2023

Yes because the kid has nearly no chance by all reports and Slater will give professional at bats for minimal cost. If there was even one person who gave him a chance to be a mlb regular i would give have a chance. But I didn't hear a single one.

He was about as bad as our entire lineup last season. .209/.321/.266/.586 He’s probably just as likely to be DFA before the end of the season as put up a professional line. And he’s already hurt. March 4, 20251 yr holding out hope that if all our OFs get injured that somehow means we cannot have a regular season team

Possibly. Most likely better than the kid. He was with Baltimore last year so fuller probably saw something. Did you look at his platoon stats? Forgot the crystal ball factor to include knowing he was going to be injured. Edited March 4, 20251 yr by ptatc

Forgot the crystal ball factor to include knowing he was going to be injured. Earlier in this thread, you basically stated that Canario has zero shot of contributing as a major leaguer. Meanwhile, Slater was absolutely terrible last season to the tune of a -0.2 bWAR, but you are sure he’s the better option to put up professional at bats? Who is using a crystal ball again? Did you look at his platoon stats from last year? Edited March 4, 20251 yr by WhiteSox2023
