All of the prospects people say that he wasn't worth it as the swing and miss was too great. Hence the reason he only brought back cash. It's a valid point though. He was out of options and teams already had their 40-man rosters full since ST had started. In what will likely be another 100 loss season, I’d rather see what a 24 year old outfielder can do rather than yet another veteran retread in Slater, who won’t net you anything of value at the trade deadline anyways. Slater isn’t exactly a lock to perform any better than him anyways, based on his mediocre to bad past two seasons. No risk and no reward. Yes because the kid has nearly no chance by all reports and Slater will give professional at bats for minimal cost. He was about as bad as our entire lineup last season. .209/.321/.266/.586 He’s probably just as likely to be DFA before the end of the season as put up a professional line. And he’s already hurt. Earlier in this thread, you basically stated that Canario has zero shot of contributing as a major leaguer. Meanwhile, Slater was absolutely terrible last season to the tune of a -0.2 bWAR, but you are sure he’s the better option to put up professional at bats? Who is using a crystal ball again?
