He got fired from ESPN back in the day for sexual harassment right? So did Steve Phillips and both are employed by MLBN. Aren't there plenty of ex-players/coaches/GMs where they wouldn't need those 2?

Reynolds was fired but he sued ESPN for wrongful termination because the charges were bogus. ESPN settled out of court and gave him a substantial amount of money. By all reports he's a good guy.

Phillips on the other hand, not so much.

Not rightly sure, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I often have MLB.tv on in the background around the house, and his dumbass soundbites are prominetly featured in their repetetive promos. They seriously can't find better talent than him? I don't get it.

A few years ago, he was covering the draft for MLB, and he said not enough black guys were drafted in the first round. Sounded just a shade racist to me.

I used to really dislike Harold based on mostly seeing him on draft night, but once I got full access to MLB Network he grew on me a lot. It helps when you don't hear his extreme positivity for young players as most of what he says

Serious question: Let's say he keeps tearing it up, but of course not at a .405 level, but still looks great in AA and AAA. Is having him in Chicago by next June, would that be rushing him? I would say no, but want to hear from other of what's a reasonable landing time in Chicago.

Let’s see what happens the rest of this year, if he makes it to AAA next year he would need a full season there.

Way to early but projecting ahead, Braden Montgomery RF, Q catching, Meidroth 2nd base, and Vargas 3rd base.

Should Teel be getting moved to 1st base now in the minors?

No no and no...you play him at the position where he has the most value.

And Meidroth still needs to show more than a 600ish ops.

With the beating that catchers take there is nothing wrong with having 2 good ones rotating between catching, DH and days off.

It was draft night? Wild.

I thought he was the one that said he'd be on the All-Decade team for the 2010s, but even Jeter and (less shockingly) Stone were super high on Beckham after his rookie year.

Him falling apart hurt.

You are correct on this, by the way. Believe it was a MLB TV segment from like late 2009 where they created their "All-Decade" team for 2010-2020, and Harold Reynolds had Gordon Beckham as his 2B of the next decade.

Whoops.

I don't know how Beckham dodges the "all-time bust" Mt. Rushmore label amongst Sox fans who readily apply it to guys from the last rebuild. They had high prospect rankings (yes, Moncada), but Beckham was still #20, had a huge rookie season and people were calling him a future MVP.

Jon Rauch, Joe Borchard and Beckham have to be grateful every day that guys like Moncada, Robert, Eloy and Kopech along with short-term memories have erased them from people's minds.

I believe it's an overall function of lack of player development, not scouting. Gordon Beckham had an amazing College World Series, remember watching him play for Georgia after the Sox had drafted him and can understand completely why Reynolds would have put him on that list. He was pretty great in a short stint in the minors and that rookie MLB season in 2009 he 100% looked the part. Then the next season came, scouting reports from other teams were developed, and the results quickly diminished.

There just hasn't been player development at the MLB level. Sure there have been guys here and there that have found success, but looking at the collective over the last 15+ years, the results speak for themselves on highly touted prospects not adjusting to the ML Level. And it's because other teams invest more resources in it, allowing for more player success.

Seriously, I don't get how Beckham is somehow beloved amongst fans now.

The only theory that makes sense: Your Love by The Outfield is an absolutely elite walkup song.

Ha! Certainly not enough to outshine the memory of his shitty on field play, but maybe that's just me.
