  • Despite the results, Vargas going from where he was to the heater he's been on since the swing change is the kind of good news the Sox need to get out of the hole they're in. If Colson can keep making

all that just to K. Fug off, go sit down.

Of course Cubs can develop a hitter in Armstrong

I realize that he has been a major league manager for 40+ game and that is a very small sample. He is friendly, he is likeable and he seems to consistently make lousy in game decisions and it all comes down to risk management. I expected more, his reputation was he is quite bright. He won't be here in 2 years.

PS - I don't blame him for the head scratching lineups, I assume a lot of those decisions are not solely his.

Replaced by Jirschele or Santos?

He's on a heater but doing a bit of a look at his stats just now he's going to regress. He has the same chase rate as Sosa.

Vargas continues to impress.

Smith 2.25 era for the game so far.

New Miguel Vargas hot takes:  Miguel Vargas is so damn good they're gonna change the name from Baseball to Vargasball!

Eh

Having PCA's speed/athleticism makes up for a lot of his flaws though.

Fucking weak ABs

He got years to figure it out, because he isn't getting fired anytime soon.

That didn't take long....

1-2-3 Sox

Not making Horton work hard that inning.

Love how the towel is thrown in after a few rookie mistakes while managing a rebuilding team. People need to Relax with the hot takes

I will be honest, seeing as literally nothing has changed with line up management and roster usage, it tells me that a lot of these things are happening above the field manager.  When it comes to Venable, I would look to better defense and smarter base running as ways to measure what he is actually responsible for.

Will they hire from within? It would be a very cheap option, so it makes sense.

Between the 2 I'd take Santos.

I'm not willing to say he's part of the solution but at least Veneble appears to not be part of the problem. Small progress.

Smith has actually lowered his ERA from 2.08.

5 7 6 1 1 5  2.05 era

that has to be it for his day

When it comes to line up construction and playing time one of two things happened.  Either they found a Pedro clone, or Getz was highly involved with both managers in these aspects, because nothing has changed.

Palencia in

Can he do it again?

Smith recovered very nicely after he got out of that big inning.  Will be interesting to see how long his stuff lasts this year, as he is another who doesn't have much of an innings history underneath him.  He's already over halfway to a career high for IP in a season.

This is how last year's edition lost so many games. Poor fielding/bad decisions/bad luck blew up into a big inning and offense too anemic to overcome it. For the most part, this year the team has played way cleaner. So disappointing, but I think this is a blip.
