I saw on my Facebook feed earlier tonight that the next public hearing in Bridgeport with Amtrak has been scheduled for Sept. 17 and that Ishbia will be there in addition to Amtrak officials.

I think Ishbia will present more of an open for discussion instead of a take it or leave it proposal. He has the ability to write a huge check directly to the ward which goes a long way.

Where were all those interested constituents when it came to building anything resembling an entertainment village in the surrounding neighborhood?

Oh, that got shot down by JR wanting to put all those dollars in his own pocket...even when it was just 2-3 neighborhood bars/pubs.

And those damned parking lots...along with the railroad viaduct separating the ball park and surrounding neighborhoods into two distinct walled off fiefdoms...really it's three if you consider the Dan Ryan border.

Given that Ald. Lee has vowed to block this project no matter what, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Amtrak will maintain their federal exemption.

The challenge for Amtrak and Ishbia is what they’re going to say to an angry audience when the ultimate outcome will be the Amtrak facility moving in and that setting the stage for the Sox to move out. Hopefully they plan to offer mitigation measures and other investments in the community.
