“The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire

It is surreal watching a real determined owner with real resources, instead of someone willing to take the biggest handout they can get. Ishbia seems determined to make this a top notch experience that Sox fans deserve. One that will grow the base instead of being stuck in some antiquated myth of a quickly disappearing past

It's very interesting to watch all the 3D chess moves toward making a new ballpark a reality. Lots of players involved: Amtrak, BNSF, Northwestern Medicine, federal grants, federal loans plus buying up additional land at the periphery of the railyard. All this going on while JR is still 100% in charge of this team such that Ishbia's plans can't be seen as undermining/usurping Jerry's authority.......and all of this without any veiled threats of relocation or requests for public money for a stadium.

I know this will draw the ire of a certain poster, but I'd rather stick to discussing reality and not some delusional rants. There's certainly a valid opinion by some fans that the Sox should stay in Bridgeport. What happens to tailgating? How does this affect people who drive to the game? They've been at the current location for over a century, what about that history? How does that Amtrak facility affect Bridgeport residents? All valid concerns, but the last 30 years has shown the limits on this franchise if they stay put. Even after 2005, it only took a few years for that attendance bump to fade away....even with a 2008 division title.

This is what makes these moves all of the more impressive. What Ishbia is pulling off is COMPLICATED. He's out there pulling together work with agencies and firms that are notoriously hard to work with. Hell dude is EMBARRASSING the Bears, and is probably getting Warren fired as he runs laps around his achievements. And there will be plenty of time for little details as time dictates. Right now is the time for big picture plans. We can pick out our parking spots later.

....my question is, will these objections by the city council even matter? Do they have any legal mechanism to stop Amtrak from starting this project?

No. There's nothing they can do.

And why is Ishbia being grilled? If Amtrak wants to move then would the city rather that area stay vacant?

The city can make things very uncomfortable. Street repairs, traffic lights, signage, sewers, water, lighting around the stadium. I mean c;mon the city owns the city, it has to be on board.

I feel like this is the part being swept under the rug on this thread. Yes, Amtrak can legally fulfill this plan without the city’s expressly given consent, but the city can do a lot to slow down that process. It is well within both Amtrak’s and Ishbia’s interests to do what they can to get the city onboard.

This. I am sure there will be a little give, but they are powerless, which is kind of ironic for the Chicago city council.

Because this is a BS negotiation tactic, and they will get something out of it eventually

Ishbia's proposed hostile takeover of neighborhoods in and around Bridgeport and Armour Park is arrogant and shortsighted. He does not know anything about the South side. There have been millions of dollars invested in this area over decades. This guy has to be stopped.

Yeah, it's not like he is putting a train yard where historically a train yard existed

Ishbia doesn't own the team. He has an option that may or may not be finalized. Meanwhile, this guy should be stopped from destroying the area around Rate Field as a predicate for this insane, arrogant plan to dig up acres of land from Cermak to 39th S. for a rail yard.

A half-truth.

People who have been going to White Sox games at Comiskey and the new stadium for generations, as well as residents in the area know where existing train tracks are and where this proposed yard would be. Ishbia's arrogant and outrageous plan should be stopped.

Bold of you to assume he isn't operating with Jerry's full endorsement, cooperation, and advice since Jerry was a complete failure at new stadium #3. Honestly, this might well be Jerry's plan, and he was just too capital poor to get it done.

And by bold, I mean totally ignorant of reality.

I guess we know where to look if someone takes a shot at Ishbia huh? Dude is absolutely fucking insane.

He has a point. He's overstepping his bounds buying things with his own damn money. He needs to hold the taxpayers hostage, take their funds, delay any building for years, then have the state build them a field that they will say doesn't meet their needs 10 years later.

I don't get the continued use of the word "arrogant"??? What is arrogant about it? Most would describe Ishbia's vision as "progress"!
