The correct answer is that there is absolutely no way JR should approve picking up a $20M contract for Robert's numbers over the last 2 years. That amount of money could actually get them a tweener coming off an off year, looking for a show-me deal to rehab his value.

Absolutely, it would be insanity for JR to do so which was my point. He's not doing it and frankly even if Robert put together a mediocre season (which for him would be an improvement) there's no way he'd allow it, not with the labor situation and the possibility (probability?) that he's going to order Getz to cut payroll again next year.

Yes, it isn’t going to happen.  Robert is gone via a salary dump trade or his $2 million dollar buyout at the end of the season.

Of course. But if there's zero trade interest and Robert plays out the string with the beloved, not picking up that option is a no-brainer, regardless of the labor situation.

Taylor is an awful baserunner. What is going on?

Stupid contact play, I absolutely hate it. Actually he did well by letting the guy on second get to third.

Why do you hate it? You’re out if it’s hit right at someone and he fields it clean, but even if that happens, you need a hit from the next guy anyway. You can steal some runs if it’s not hit right at a guy or if the throw is slightly off.

Another save ! Back to  .333 win percentage.

They just can't stay above it. When they get to it or above they drop a bunch on the road. But good pitching . Lucky that Devers has sucked against the Sox .

Nice little late inning comeback . I swear the Sox get a lot of their wins on Friday, Saturday, Sunday compared to other days . I suppose I could find those records .

Maybe the Giants were looking ahead to their series in Arizona. On this 6 game homestand, only the first game against the D-backs (10-0) got out of hand. Every other game was winable.

Just a note, both Noda and Elko are very good defensively, a shame they can’t hit.

They both look so agile and quick out there. But coming off of Vaughn, I would look smooth doing it.

I think it would be shortsighted. What, they don't wanna pay his contract next year? They tendered Vaughn whose ceiling is only marginally better than Robert's floor. For less money, sure, but who else are they paying next season? You can't carry a $20mil contract in the hopes that he performs like the $30mil player (or whatever) he has shown he can be? He isn't a "salary dump" like Benintendi is (Benny might actually be tradable next year though if he can keep up his 'ok' play). It isn't a "cut your losses" situation IMO, I just think we're not going to get anything for him at the moment, we might get something back in the offseason if he can return to form, and if he ends up somewhere in between, he's still a good player and a valuable contributor at a defense-first position for the remainder of his contract. If he ends up as a .650 OPS player and retains his defense and base stealing, that's still a good player, just maybe not the 5-tool superstar we might've hoped Robert would be. It would be a shame to trade him for a lotto ticket and he accumulates 30 WAR over his next contract for a different team.

Feel like they should've traded him a long time ago and now we're just stuck with him. He's still an elite defensive center fielder which is a rare thing to find; if he can even hit like Michael A, that's probably good for 3 WAR. Who are we going to replace him with? Brooks can't play center field. As far as I can tell, there isn't a single one in the system. Maybe one of these shortstops can play the position. If they move on from Robert, I'd hope they get a lefty bat for CF though.

I was thinking about Cristian Pache the other day...I thought that guy was gonna be so good. If we're looking at Syndegaard, I'd look at him too lol.

This post was kind of for nothing. He's got 2 option years left on his contract but those can be bought out by whoever has him at the end of the season and he'll be a FA next year.

No one will pick up that 1st option which effectively ends the 2nd option too since the only way to reach the 2nd option is for someone to pay him $20M next year which isn't going to happen barring some miraculous monster HR filled 2nd half and playoffs heroics.

The Sox will pay down some of what remains of this years $15M which should be somewhere around $7M depending on the date they trade him. Most likely a bit under $7M so maybe the Sox pay off $3-3.5M. (If he doesn't have some major pull that'll keep him out for a month.)
