HS Drafted/Committed: TCU Age At Draft: 18.0 BA Grade: 55/Extreme Fernsler is a lefthander who is young for the class and uses deception and advanced strike-throwing to overwhelm prep hitters. Listed at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, he attacks hitters from a low three-quarters slot and has a crossfire landing which makes everything he throws difficult to pick up. His velocity is below-average—he tops out in the low 90s and sometimes sits predominantly in the upper 80s—but his fastball consistently plays up thanks to his unique release and a flat approach angle. Fernsler has a pair of quality secondaries between a low-80s changeup and a low-80s slider. Some scouts prefer the slider to the changeup, and vice versa, but both pitches have the potential to become above-average secondaries. He has also mixed in a slower curveball in the mid 70s, but his fastball, slider and changeup are his main ingredients. Fernsler has earned a reputation for having some of the best command in the 2025 prep class, and there are scouts who think he’ll get to plus control in the future. Fernsler is committed to TCU and will still be 17 years old on draft day. He’s been scouted heavily this spring and could become the highest drafted high school pitcher from Michigan of the 2000s, with talent that fits in the first three rounds. Hodge stands 6-foot-2, 195 pounds with a quick bat and a historically aggressive approach, although he showed solid plate discipline on the summer showcase circuit in 2024. Still, his swing-and-miss tendencies against all kinds led to a decent number of strikeouts. When he’s locked in and on time, Hodge has a line-drive swing and can drive the ball up the middle and to both gaps. Teams were more impressed with his defensive looks this spring. He’s an agile defender with the hands, athleticism and tools to become an above-average to potentially plus catcher in time, even if the path for prep catchers can be a long and winding one. He sticks the ball nicely when he receives and can block effectively to go along with a strong throwing arm. He’ll need to add more strength to his frame to withstand the rigors of catching in pro ball and also unlock a bit more impact at the plate. Hodge is committed to LSU, but he’s considered signable and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go within the first three rounds. July 14, 2025Jul 14 Law had him #65 on his board . Hodge is an athletic catcher with a 65 arm, and he has good bat speed with some feel to hit despite getting too much over his front side. It’s a very handsy approach as a result, without getting much help from his lower half, and the bat speed is solid but not great. There’s some additional potential power here if he stays back on the ball more, which might also help his contact rate; he doesn’t expand the zone much but has had issues with contact when pitchers change speeds on him, with an overall whiff rate of 38 percent in tracked events from 2024-25. He’s committed to LSU.
