129. Gabe Davis
RHP

Ht: 6'9" | Wt: 225 | B-T: R-R

School: Oklahoma State Drafted/Committed: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.7

BA Grade: 45/High

Davis is a mountain of a pitcher with a 6-foot-9, 235-pound frame who has flashed huge arm talent throughout his Oklahoma State career. He’s never thrown more than 50 innings in a season and missed much of the 2024 fall after breaking his collarbone. He then pitched sporadically in 2025 and dealt with shoulder issues. Working mostly out of the bullpen this spring, Davis posted a 5.92 ERA in 24.1 innings with a 23.2% strikeout rate and 12.8% walk rate. At his best, Davis has shown stuff that warrants a selection in the first two rounds. He sits in the mid 90s with a high-spin heater that has been up to 100 mph and could play up thanks to his well above-average extension. His present command of the pitch could mitigate any extra value the pitch might get from his release traits, and he tends to be scattered and erratic in general. Davis throws a mid-80s slider that has plus potential with hard movement. He will also mix in a mid-80s changeup and an occasional curveball around 80 mph. Davis likely fits best in the bullpen where he can focus on his fastball/slider combination, but he’ll need to improve his control to pitch in high-leverage situations. He could fit somewhere between rounds 4-7 on draft day.

Scouting Grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 60 | Curveball: 40 | Changeup: 40 | Control: 40.

  • I really miss Harold. Was really helpful for me and informative. I think fucking losers on this site finally chased him away. It’s a real shame if so.

  • I'm with you. Hard to argue about a left handed hitting OF with a patient approach and some notable thump with solid tools across the board. I take this all day at 44.

  • Yea same. Imagine chasing off an insider who routinely would feed the board tidbits on draft intel, trade info, and knowledge on the inner workings of the org. Shows how shitty and petty some of

Reminds me so much of Nate Jones

Gabe Davis will benefit from sounding like someone you've heard of before (then you remember you are thinking of the bills receiver)

Fauske is very, very likely well overslot

Then they should have picked someone else.
Reaching yields 121 losses.

I love to read all these reports on draftees and just remember last Saturday we just celebrated a guy drafted in the 38th round... So....you never know

Big game Gabe!

I love the Fauske pick.

We should have taken a safer pick like Vaughn or Madrigal!!

To be fair, Mark Buehrle is one of the craziest draft picks of all-time and the key to his pitching wasn't his stuff, it was the fact that he's one of the best defensive pitchers of all-time and pitched stupid fast.

Never thrown more than 50 innings in a season and injury prone.  I do like them taking a chance on a dude with a big time ceiling at least.

I missed the Nats getting Coy James. That's a really fun class they have so far.

Shelton is an intriguing pick

158. Colby Shelton SS

Ht: 6'0" | Wt: 185 | B-T: L-R

School: Florida Drafted/Committed: Nationals ’24 (20) a filled-out 6-foot, 205-pound frame who has plenty of raw power and has now shown an ability to make real adjustments, though there are questions about whether Shelton is the sort of pure hitter who can blend both approaches in the future. Shelton is a below-average runner and fringy defensive shortstop who was fine at the position in college, but might be a better fit at third base or second base at the next level. His footwork and actions are stiff at times and his overall quickness limits his range, though he does have arm strength for the left side of the infield.

Scouting Grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run:40 | Field: 45 | Arm: 50.

The buzzword I am already done with is "make up".  Apparently everyone we draft is a high "make up" guy.

Considering the issues with this during the last rebuild attempt, I dont blame them for valuing this.

So do I.  He's a 2nd round talent and we got him in the 2nd and he should get 2nd round slot (which would be the highest 2nd round slot)..

As for "makeup", the problem with this team has been lack of talent.  We need guys that can hit and have speed.  Not a team of, with all due respect, Getz'.

The issues were management and bringing in people to fit the kids.  These same kids were all producing at high levels until said change and then they lost them forever.  Can we talk about the make up of the ownership team instead?  Nah, we'll use the assigned buzzword instead.

Sounds like Crochet. Hopefully lightening strikes twice.

Sure, blame everyone but the players themselves. They have no responsibility in their own work ethic or off season work.

Yep, only the players.

That's not how this works. That's not how this has worked for years. These prep players have leverage. They have college commitments they can honor. They can bet on themselves to make more money by going to school. NIL now factors into the equation as well. They have a number they will forgo all of this for, and it's up to the teams to deem if they want to pay that or go another route with another player.

I never said only the players. You said only management.

You dont consider a player motivation as the other.

Again with the has to only be one or the other view point on everything.

So far the Sox have yet to punt a pick. Wonder if we are approaching that point.
