WestEddy
Cash Considerations Sources: The Rays are acquiring infielder Tristan Gray from the White Sox for cash. — Robert Murray (@ByRobertMurray) July 26, 2025 Edited July 26 by WestEddy

WestEddy
I wonder if this actually means a Bergolla or Gonzalez promotion to AAA.
Bob Sacamano
They probably should have just given him a shot over Rojas.

HoosierSox
JRs favorite trade return. Cash Considerations.
Timmy U
Sox may be clearing space to get a volume of bottom of the 40 man types at the deadline. I would expect teams to be willing to trade roster crunch and out of options guys ahead of young lottery tickets for the marginal players the Sox have on offer.

I see this trade and I think "but why?" then I remember Jake Amaya and I think "but why" even more, Amaya is pretty much better at everything and neither of these two guys are any good. Kim and Lowe are injured (10IL), so it makes sense the D-Rays might need some infield depth for a week or two. But why Gray? Is he really better than CoCo Montes? His name isn't better. I guess they drafted him and he debuted there. Trust the AAA player you know, but I suspect neither one of these guys can hit in the majors but at least Amaya can sometimes play good defense. Maybe Gray is a good defender, I don't actually know.

Maybe Gray is a good defender, I don't actually know. They know him, for one. They're all just "depth". The Amaya remark was a joke. I would imagine that between the TDL and draft, the sox need to make some room on various rosters. They could even get assets undervalued by their presence on the 40-man and lack of options. I'm fine with it from our side, I think it's frankly a good sign that several players are "killing it" at Charlotte and will never see the MLB team. Lee and Ramos I'd actually like to see, Ramos might've finally busted though. I'm just like, if you're the Rays or any team and you're making a trade, why this guy? He's going to play for probably a couple of weeks and the Rays are only 1.5 back from the Wild Card. If you're dumpster diving the Sox farm system for a 'free' infielder to serve as depth at SS/2B, I might've taken the guy who has a reputation as a 'defender' if neither player can hit at all. I'm also thinking to myself that the price tag for Amaya was a little too high for TB...that's a joke 🫠

The White Sox say former first round pick Jacob Gonzalez was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte. I don't know if that was already out there, but I know I just got a text message about it. Here's a semi-recent article on him.https://t.co/mGiIWtHZA7 — James Fegan (@JRFegan) July 26, 2025

chitownsportsfan
This trade is great. Clear out dead wood and get a little cash for a guy with no business on the 40 man anyways. Getz has done a pretty good job with the overall roster management the last couple months it's night and day better than his first year.
GreenSox
Rays and the Getz FO seem to work well together. This is the 3rd player the Sox have sent to the Rays, including thais who was a legit major leaguer. The Rays probably gave the Sox the heads-up on Vasil. Good win-win situation.
