Astros interested in Cease

They have an awful farm system so wonder what they'll pull off.

I don’t think that really matters when you’re talking about a rental. I guess they still have to give up something interesting enough to make them not hold him and offer a QO though.

Oh, the Sox can squeeze their way into this

Astros:  Cease, Tauchman
Padres:  Robert, Houser/Civale, veteran Sox pen arm of their choice, K Lee
Sox:  Melton (Astros prospect)

Seems like a lot to give up for an aging prospect (turns 25 in a month) with a very questionable bat.

Yea, he's a questionable prospect. It's just hard to get more sure prospects out of these teams...and or good reason.

You want to trade five major leaguers for one questionable prospect?

I should have used the term "risky"; he's also Astros #2 prospect and was in the top 100.  And can play CF.

No one seems to be making any decent offers for any of these major leaguers.

Padres are trying to trade Salas or Campusano...don't have interest in acquiring one despite Maldonado's mid 500s ops.

They need Robert or Tauchman and Houser.

Trying to add and subtract at same time with Cease and Suarez.

The worst team in a multi team trade still ends up being the worst team.  Bad habits never die among bad GMs.

Well the Padres major league catching is, as of now, less than exemplary.

If Astro’s #2 Melton is worthy of derision for these Sox “major leaguers,” what level of prospect can we reasonably expect
Or is this just a set-up to beat on Getz, regardless of outcome.

Bingo !!  Although there does seem to be a coalition forming that will be happy if Robert isn't traded as long as he gets his $20M option picked up even if he sucks the rest of the season. We have payroll space ! We can afford to sign shitty ,injury prone guys for $20M because the odds are so good he'll be worth the good old proverbial haul in off season or the 2026 trade deadline !!

Barring all that happening yes people will not be happy with all the pitchers we end up getting in trades.

Yeah, worded like that, I'm firmly in the "posture as you like, but take the best offer on the table at 4:30 tomorrow" column.

As long as their arms don't all fall off and control abandon them right after joining the team.
