One team can homer, the other bunts with their number 4 hitter.

Despite all the big names in SD only the #18 offense.  Schildt is the StL traditional NL small ball guy.

Estrada Miller or Morejon need to be ready.

That said, Merrill wouldn't bunt against a rhp in that situation.

Who’s ready to see former Sox, current asshole, Brad Keller come in with his additional 5 mph mysteriously added to close this out?

I think you have to save him for tomorrow if you can’t tie this up

Zero confidence in Cease.

Have to win this one.

Dylan when he goes bad always gives up 3-5 in an inning and then you're fighting all game to come back.

Long way to go...lol.

Last year there were like 10-12 former Sox relievers in the postseason, everywhere you looked practically.

And now you get to bring in a lefty reliever next inning to face the lefties.  Just such a dumb lineup construction.  They’ve known for weeks they were likely gonna face the Cubs.

Shadows having more and more of an effect...

Will need to get to Cubs' pen in the 8th inning.

Bottom of lineup next inning.

Horton would have been the G1 starter.

Still not sure how you're supposed to miraculously replace Laureano in the last week of the season.

With who?

He has been SD's best hitter...along with Merrill.

Ol' speed burner Sheets turning a fly out into a single

They knew all along they’d see two lefty starters.  Even playing 4 of them, if Laureano was healthy, is way too many.  Meanwhile their defense looks horrendous

Shocking

There comes the Sheets defense.

Laureano would have had that.

SD is just a flawed team.

Cubs blew a good chance there.

You're forgetting their minor league system has been gutted the last two years.

They're like the 28th/29th MiLB system.

Not much help available.

the irony of talking about needing righty hitters against Boyd and Imanaga with who is lurking next week :)

Cubs aren't going far in the playoffs with that rotation and Tucker/PCA not hitting...they might just have enough to take out SD with home field advantage.

Who was available?

Martin Maldonado...Diaz???

Other than Tatis Machado Bogaerts they're a LH dominant team.

If the Padres got that 3-2 lead or even 2-2 Johnson would be in for defense about right now.

Brewers impress you that much though with Peralta and then question marks?

Bad outfield defense and warning track power. The Gavin Sheets experience!

That Laureano injury really hurts now

Anything is possible in the playoffs.

Sasaki and Henriquez haven't been tested in the postseason for LA.

Sets up nicely for cubs to over achieve against two teams that can't seem to figure out how to win in the playoffs.

Yep definitely an ideal draw for them given where they finished

He would have been the third best hitter after Colson and Teel on the White Sox...

This game was all about not scoring runs 2 and 3 in the early going.

You mean when the lefties came up?

Have to score against Kittredge next inning.
