White Sox tender Derek Hill, non-tender Cam Booser, Tim Elko, & Mike Tauchman

I don't see the appeal in Hill but they're hardly paying him above the minimum and the guy can really catch the ball. Just gives a guy on the bench that probably won't bother anybody too much.

Hill makes more sense to me than the rest because you picked him up at the very end of the season and never got to really see him.

But yeah, if they aren't even willing to try with Booser, that really tells you how bad that trade was.  They even tendered Wilson after his awful season.

For when Robert gets hurt again. They have no legit CF option. $900K is nothing.

I'd rather the new guy Pereira play CF. Supposedly he's "slowed down" but still has the range to play the position. Hill seems worthless.

Hill is a nothing burger.  He turns 30 next month.

I guess you still need a second guy on the roster who can. But this doesn’t mean Hill is a slam dunk to survive the season, let alone offseason.

I'm not really losing sleep over the Booser deal but there's no way to put lipstick on that pig either. Chances are that it winds up a draw but all the upside lives with the Red Sox now.

yeah, it's basically no money, but I'm still kinda surprised.

Everson Pereira needs to be in RF... but that's never stopped the Sox before.

And Hill is pretty much abysmal offensively, don't even need to look at the stats.

Just goes to show how unproductive the system (and Getz) have been at developing ANYONE to replace Robert in CF that can both hit AND field.

Fajardo is currently the Red Sox #25 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and likely moving up soon.

I have no idea who they plan to add as the offseason progresses, but subtracting Tauchman, Gomez, Wilson, and Booser while taking a flyer on Pereira, Murphy and R/R MiLB utility player Tanner Murray does not feel like a team trying to add wins this season. I think they are significantly worse, which ain't easy.

This is going to be a very bad offseason.  They’re looking to cut as many corners as possible.

Now you’re getting it.  🤣

Like I said, chances are that neither player does much but all the upside is with the Red Sox

I don't know if I would use the term "significantly worse" when talking about a 62 win team, but it also isn't good to see them dumping dollars already.

You could say that about any prospect.  Getz gave up a 19 year old pitching prospect for 33 year old reliever and got 31 innings and a -0.5 bWAR out of him.  It was a horrendous trade.

Murray is basically Shewmake from the Bummer trade...

Probably ends up performing like a combination of Maton and Amaya.

Anyine miss Brent Lillibridge?

And why did they draft Jacob Gonzalez again?

Getz really sucks at this

Love the way you analyze...there's really just no point in discussing these roster churns.

Except to wonder how much more embarrassing things can get?

That's our real competition this year... with the Twins/Pohlad family.

Yeah, probably an overstatement. I think last year's team was really more like a 70 win team. They severely underperformed their run differential. I was feeling optimistic that they might be a 75 win team coming into the year, but they reduced their starter depth, their reliever depth, and now they don't have a rightfielder.  Not great. They do have five young players that I think will help them this year (B. Montgomery, Antonacci, H. Smith, Schultz, and McDougal). Hopefully, they are clearing out space for them? Cuz I personally can't handle another year of giving 350+ at bats to AAAA players like Josh Rojas, Nicky Lopez, and, gulp, Derek Hill. But you're right. Even if they do that, they should still win more than 62 with the young guys they now have in the lineup.
