David Schoenfield is apparently not very familiar with the White Sox and their owner.

They're getting desperate for teams to keep the Tucker intrigue going.  Schoenfield knows better... and noted this type of move is a few years away (implicitly).

Missing the excitement of Ohtani, Judge and So to the last two offseaons.

Tucker is older, more injury prone and just hadn't put up superstar numbers compared to others.  And he just isn't one of those Q Rating guys like a Bryce Harper that transform a franchise with their mere presence..

Unfortunately their bats are awful and will probably nullify their defensive skills.

They’ll just lose more close games because there will be more close games. Won’t matter much when they can’t score.

Funny that the author mentions Manny signing with SD when the Sox were trying to do the exact same thing back then and failed miserably. But, things are different now, and I’m sure boy wonder will be able to convince Jerry on Tucker way better than Hahn was able to convince Jerry on Machado…

Harper was the right pick to really transform the franchise at that time and as it turned out Moncada had his best season in 2019.

I think Pereira is most likely a platoon bat in right. Who knows if he’ll hit even a little? Hill is no Michael A. Taylor. .200 is an impossible dream for him. I hope they get a lefty swinger who can play some outfield, otherwise Braden will be up no later than May 1. Personally, I am tired of them stocking the team in April with waiver wire fodder, going double digits under .500 and then playing out the string for 5 months. I would love it if they thought coming into the year that they would play close to .500 in April. I do not believe that will be a priority.

But why? The guy has hit .200+ his entire career, pretty much. Taylor had a little more pop at the end, but all you want out of Hill is to cover CF in the case Robert goes down.

As for the rest, they did leave themselves a bunch of roster spots, so they're not done.

I'm kind of starved for any baseball talk, so here's the latest FutureSox podcast with James Fox and Ian Eskridge.

Highlights -

1) they surmise Duncan Davitt would have been taken in the Rule 5, so the Sox protected him
2) They throw out the names Yordanny Monegro (Red Sox) and Reggie Crawford (Giants) as guys the Sox could be looking at
3) Venable seems to love Derek Hill, so get used to him, maybe
4) Pereira/Murray trade shows the Sox prioritizing defense
5) Leger and Shoman seem to come in with no connections, just interviewed and hired

Enjoy, and think about throwing these guys a couple of dollars a month through Patreon. I find the Sunday night Podcasts to be pretty informative.  FutureSox | creating baseball content | Patreon

Neither guy can hit, but Hill is even worse.  Getz is valuing defense at the expense of any offense with his acquisitions.  He did this in his first offseason and we all know how that went…

Taylor:  .232 / .288 / .379 / .667

Hill:  .229 / .277 / .347 / .624

It's unfortunate the White Sox can't see to find players who can actually catch the ball AND hit. It's funny, other teams seem to be able to do so.

1) At this stage, I wouldn't call Hill "even worse". He hits about on par with where Taylor was last year, minus some power.
2) He's a backup who can cover CF. Tommy Pham was that guy in 2024, and he was horrible in CF.
3) You're not really looking to find a backup CF who's better than your regular CF. That would be finding a replacement CF.
4) There are about 6 open 40-man spots, so the off-season hasn't even really started yet.

That's weird, because all 3 Cleveland starters had below average OPS+ for 2025. Their next two outfield subs didn't even get to within half of average major league production. Seattle's Luke Raley and Dylan Moore were horrible, offensively. Philadelphia's entire OF setup, outside of Brandon Marsh, was a complete abortion.

So, I think what you meant to say was it's good that the White Sox are at least on par with what actual playoff teams are running out there in the outfield.

Hill is just a defensive first, 26th man, backup CF. I have no problem with him being here for now. Heck, he may not even make it to Spring Training. Not worth the energy even talking about.

With Robert either headed for a trade or a long trip to the IL and Montgomery not being ready yet, I would not be surprised if Hill gets a decent amount of playing time.  Just look at how much playing time Taylor got last season, and Hill is pretty much his direct replacement.

Other than that slight design flaw with the eight supposedly airtight compartments mathenatically meaning 5/8 being breached would lead to an inevitable sinking...the HMS Titanic was a fine ship.

The White Sox, otoh, have intentional design flaws with offense, defense and pitching.

At any rate, as soon as the Sox can match the heart of the Phillies or Mariners post-deadline lineups, that will be a day to truly look forward to, because they're not really close yet.

Actually, having awful position player production has been the norm during the Getz regime.

Above average has been the outlier.

And that’s fine. We know they’re not going to spend anything ahead of the strike. I wish that wasn’t the case because it would be more fun adding in 2026 when you know they won’t be able to draft higher than 10th in 2027 but it is what it is.

Edit: the strategy they should have done after finding out their draft position for 2024.

No, the point is that many teams, even about a quarter of playoff teams, got crap production from their outfield. It's fun to pretend 29 teams are running 3 All-Stars out there and have two more sitting on the bench in order to crap on the White Sox. That's pure fantasy.

The White Sox got above average production from 3 positions on a 100-loss team in 2025, and then above replacement in 3 others.

Great marketing tagline for 2026.

Talk about a unique selling proposition or USP.

"The White Sox suck and won't be able to compete with anybody until Ishbia sells the team" is an even worse marketing tagline.

Keep working on it.

Don't you mean officially becomes control person/takes over the team and brings in the MLB equivalent of Ben Johnson....?

As it stands, the value of his shares will be decreasing the next two years.
