At no point do I ever want Matt Shaw on my team because I will always actively root against him.

You could have just stopped there.

There really are some anonymous shitbags on this website. Just a completely derailed thread full of utter nonsense.

He's already in his mid 30's though...the number of guys who just suddenly take off at the big league level at that point can be counted on one hand.

He’s a bench guy on a one year deal making $1.25 million.  He is replacing 40 year old Justin Turner.  I doubt the Cubs are looking at him as anything but that.

At least I can properly root for him to figure it out now that he's not a Guardian

Wouldn’t have minded taking a shot on him.

it's crazy to think about how recently McKenzie and Manoah were on top of the pitching world

Repeat after me:  You can never have enough pitching.

Except the Dodgers.

And they almost ran out of reliable high-leverage relievers in the post season.

So to reiterate,  you can never have enough pitching.

Well, 90-95% are positive about Carlos Rodriguez, at least.  Maybe it's a carry over effect from winning the #1 pick.

Most popular, least questioned Sox decision in quite some time.

Just wondering why it didn't happen 2+ years ago.

"The Padres are in agreement with Michael King on a three-year contract, reports Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The deal includes opt-outs after each of the first two seasons. It’s a $75MM guarantee, Feinsand adds. King receives a $12MM signing bonus and a $5MM salary for the 2026 season. He’ll decide on a $28MM player option or $5MM buyout next winter and would have a $30MM player option for 2028 if he doesn’t opt out."        mlbtraderumors

Talk about creative book-keeping here.

$28 and $30 million deals might kill the Padres in 2027-28.

"San Diego’s projected payroll climbs to $218MM, as calculated by RosterResource. The backloaded nature doesn’t change the $25MM AAV used for luxury tax purposes. They’re up to a projected $259MM in tax commitments. They’ll exceed the $244MM base threshold for the second straight season. Repeat payors are taxed at a 30% rate for their first $20MM in overages. Re-signing King costs around $4.5MM in taxes.

The more significant development is that it moves them closer to the $264MM second tier, at which the rate climbs to 42%."     mlbtr

Not that I think they will sign him, but does Murakami have to a deal finalized by Monday or just agreed to? If it’s the former, you would think an announcement would happen today.

Has to be signed by Monday.

So we should hear about an agreement sooner.

(again, not that I think it will be the Sox lol but just for the sake of someone who follows the offseason in general)

I’d join him too. Of course, not in the same room…that would be awkward.

Padres sign Korean infielder Sung-Mun Song. His posting window was set to close December 21st.
