WhiteSox2023 Posted yesterday at 05:41 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:41 PM Eh, Schriffen is better. I heard he has a big offer on the table to do play-by-play for Slamball again.
SoCalChiSox Posted yesterday at 05:47 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:47 PM Good for Jason. He deserves it. Hopefully when we get to a new ownership in a few years, the club will stop going out of its way to alienate good employees. 2 2
T R U Posted yesterday at 07:47 PM Share Posted yesterday at 07:47 PM Benetti is god awful at baseball, but I have heard him call some football games and it was pretty enjoyable.
Ducksnort Posted yesterday at 07:54 PM Share Posted yesterday at 07:54 PM Would this mean that he would no longer be the Tigers pbp?

He'd be doing both since the NBC broadcast if I remember right would be along the lines of the "Game of the Week..." Very few broadcasters today have "exclusive" contracts at that level prohibiting them for working as well for national outlets.

Nothing wrong with that at a baseball game. Plus it provides good contrast from Stone acting like he would light up in flames if he even came in contact with a piece of food in the booth. 1 1

Stone talks about how he only eats meat/steak and is apparently as repulsed by vegetables as a 5 year old kid.

JR driving him away and replacing him with someone who is highly unqualified doesn't impact the play on the field, but it sure typifies how he has run this organization over the last two decades. At least when the decade is out, our team should be under new ownership. When Pope Leo throws out the first pitch at the new ballpark, I don't expect Schriffen to be there unless he bought a ticket to the game. 3

nrockway
good luck, Jason! I wasn't mad they moved on from him. His careerism impacts his ability to call local games. "hmm, I dunno, I don't think that call should favor the Sox" is not the attitude to have. Dude also has no depth perception, could never tell a home run off the bat. He's much better at both football and basketball. Loved when he filled in for Bulls games. Try to catch whatever NFL game he's announcing. He really reminds me of a better, non-lame version of Joe Buck. His future is bright. But I got tired of listening to his constant "unbiased" haterade at the local level. Make or break year for Schriff. I think it's a contract year. Derrick Rose took a leap and won MVP his third season, maybe Schriff will do the same. He'd be fine if he knew anything at all about the sport. Maybe somebody told him to watch some baseball.

Benetti may be better at announcing football and basketball than baseball but the only thing Schriffen is better at than Benetti is SlamBall, and that’s only because Benetti has never covered it. You mention that Benetti’s “careerism” impacts the number of Sox games he can call, but mention nothing about our other broadcaster nearing retirement with only one gig who takes off numerous games and rarely even makes west coast trips. You also seem to be annoyed that Benetti wasn’t a complete and utter Sox homer like Schriffen who was constantly trying to tell us that a 100+ loss team was so good, even when they were setting the MLB loss record. That was simply delusional and makes it appear that he thinks Sox fans are complete and utter morons. Finally, how many moronic basic baseball questions does Schriffen posit to Stone each season? You would likely lose count of tracking them after a couple games. If you did a drinking game around it you would be hammered by the 7th inning. Neil Funk was really underappreciated too. Major troll, very amusing, until he lost his eyesight and started confusing Taj Gibson and Tyrus Thomas. I think Schriff could get better if he actually tried at his job. And didn't put his foot in his mouth 100 times a season. I ain't mad if he's gone after next season, I'm also not mad that they moved on from the guy who has grander ambitions than local announcer. Mike Breen is also a great national announcer but sucks listening to on Knicks games, Clyde Frazier does all the heavy lifting. I couldn't imagine Joe Buck, Al Michaels, etc broadcasting local games. These guys all have national interests they don't want to piss off. Benetti knows how his bread is buttered and it isn't by Chicago or Detroit. It's not so much homerism as actually rooting for your team. Every 50-50 call, Benetti is all like, "hmm, I dunno, it's pretty close..." like come on man, support the team.
