It's weird that saying anything negative about the team is treated like a personal attack to some.

Luis Robert won't be on the next good White Sox team. Acuna and Pauley might be. It's basically that simple. The league just told you what Robert is worth. Holding him into the season would be insane.

“But I believed in them from the beginning, so only I get to celebrate now that they are improving!!!1” 🤣

You have at Minn for 3, at Philly for 3, Braves for 3, Dodgers for 3, at Yanks for 3, at Det for 3, Clev for 3, and KC for 3. Were going to know by July 1st if this team is a contender ...

Even if they're 8-10 games under .500 for this stretch...the season would likely still be considered successful.

But nobody KNEW Martin and Vargas would be where they are as of today.

Colson and Mune were 50/50 bets at least.

Nobody knew they could survive without Teel for 2-3 months either, with Quero actually one of the worst players on the team, along with the more predictably challenged Acuna.

Nobody knew Peters would be a 2-3 fWAR CFer.

That Sandlin and not Hagen or McDougal would be contributing.

That they would play over the losses of Vasil Teel Hays Shane Smith Pereira, etc.

The worst bullpen ERA ... etc.

This .500 or better record is just as improbable as 41-121 in many ways.

If they're still over .500 into July when Cholowsky or Lackey is selected 1-1, you'd have yourself quite the story....just like 1977/83/1990/2000.

🤣 During the bad times I was outgunned by almost the whole board telling me I was a water carrier and stan for Getz drinking Sox koolaid. I always preached patience and wait for the kids to arrive. Id make points that so many disagreed with I had to just pick 1 to respond to or else I'd be here 24/7 .

These were things everyone said during the 1st rebuild but it spectacularly collapse and everyone got bitter.

Now you want to play white knight because the side you were part of is getting a little reminder that things were indeed trending up and that it would take time to come up from rock bottom ? You're a freaking saint buddy.

You weren’t outgunned, you argued. Sorry it was too much for you. Your schtick sucks

Rick Hahn was also like Teflon to any board criticism until Tatis broke out...eventually, he was the exact opposite of revered and no defenders were left standing for him, Jeremy Haber or Hostetler.

Poor guy was made to feel like he had to respond to every post he disagreed with. What a victim.

I find it funny that there were people who took victory laps after every single loss, after every error and strikeout by Dominic Fletcher, spent their entire days looking for any comments that weren't screaming for Getz to be fired to accuse those people of performing sex acts upon Getz. Every spring outing by Cristian Mena drew proclamations that he gained 5-7 mph on his fastball just by walking out of Sox camp. Now, those of us who were the recipients of that are pushing back a little. Like, you, WS23, don't have 8 people making up BS for you to defend for literal pages, then 3-4 drive-bys of dudes showing up just to tell you you're s%*#, and your thoughts don't matter. You have to read one or two comments of people crowing that they weren't actually wrong. Maybe SoxTalk should have a special Crisis Counselor String for the mad-heads to get support in the face of the rush of good news.

Weird, also, that the negativity was often directed at some people as personal attacks. Nobody was stopped from saying negative things.

"This team sucks, as constructed". Nobody pushed back on that. "This convo on a newly acquired pitcher shouldn't be able to have anything positive because Getz has no concept of what a baseball even is, and If you don't believe he should be fired and never work in the game again, you're fellating him right this actual second," might have gotten a retort of "You know, this pitcher did have an entire season of success before his injury", which isn't quite jack-booted thugs telling you to shutcher face or else.

Fletcher ended up being a bad move, regardless of what Mena ended up being. Mena had value at the time and he brought back a fourth outfielder that barely played for the Sox.

But I also remember many posters raving about what appeared to be a minor pickup in Drew Romo this offseason, but it was pretty much universally praised by this entire site so it’s obviously not like every move Getz makes is crapped on. Reese McGuire, not so much, and the posters were right about that one.

Maybe context matters, maybe when it’s 3 years of 100 losses it pisses long time fans off. You embraced the rebuild, I did not. Regardless of how each of us approached it, here we are 4 years later finally coming out of the weeds and we both like the same team. I don’t hold anything against anyone who thought this rebuild sucked ass, because it absolutely did coming on the heels of another rebuild. Lots of gray area here.

The insults you took are just as dumb as the glum chums you keep trying to make happen. At the end of the day everyone in this thread wants them to win (except Ron. Jk)

To get back to the thread, thank you for getting rid of Luis Robert, he is hurt just like always and it’s great to not be doing that roster crunch because of him every year

Fletcher ended up being a move. What it looks like Getz does is groups in a bunch of post-hype, last chance, shot at 1-WAR guys and lets them fight it out for spots. Fletcher, DeLoach, Pillar, Pham, Julks, Colas, Grossman, Ortega - Julks had a nice two weeks, and Pham was...okay. Everything failed. They weren't bad "moves" per se; that's what was available at their price point. I'm guessing scouting was spotty, and Grifol's staff s%*# the bed.

With the current group of outfielders, Kelenic and Acuña aren't bad moves, they're depth. Not everyone turns into a 5-WAR titan.

My point was there was dudes showing up all day to post, "Oh, so you're saying..." and then append some BS I wasn't saying that I, in my idiot-ness, felt compelled to respond to. You aren't getting that, now. There's a big difference between a troll mob, and two guys saying, "oh, where are all the detractors, now?"

Of course you mean the people who are still mad that someone dares to argue with them? Because damn are they mad. Like so mad they can't even enjoy the team in front of them.

We can all just choose to move on and enjoy this team together.

Acuna sucks but would we really have preferred to gamble on Robert only for him to sit out half the season and not move anywhere?

I haven't seen Robert play any SS either. Acuna has helped, in his own way.

Any continued Luis Robert kvetching can go in the former Sox thread.
