LUIS ROBERT TRADED

I'm so done with worrying about Yoan, Eloy and Robert. There's another option in that contract. Seriously, we'd be doing this again next winter. Dude, buy a sailboat.

For the record, I wasn't saying we should have hold onto him lol my comment was to the people who wanted to hold onto him rather than move him for Acuna. I'm very happy he's not on the team.

Luis Robert won't be on the next good White Sox team. Acuna and Pauley might be. It's basically that simple. The league just told you what Robert is worth. Holding him into the season would be insane.

Not for a second, he is getting his option declined

I think he may have taken my comment the wrong way. I wasn't advocating in the slightest that we should have held onto him.

Hate to say I (and others here) told you so about Robert...

And there were people in this thread up in arms he got traded. He is what he is.

it's crazy how many guys the Sox get rid of and go on to another team and immediately start having some success (Eloy, Robert, Vaughn, Paulette, going back I think Craig Kimbrel had a decent start with someone else once the Sox moved on from him after he was horrible here)

of course all of those players went on to be bad again

I agree with you. If we held onto him, we'd be doing the same kvetching next off-season about whether to pick up the option, or not.

This certainly takes some of the sting out when they inevitably DFA Acuna. Good athlete. Could never get his lefty swing going.

If you hate to say it you could just, you know, not say it. No need to victory lap a serious injury.

This is a bit of reframing. There are posters who wish he would have been traded earlier and closer to his peak value. There is no gloating that he was ultimately traded away far too late and for no players of value, outside of the dump of his salary.

Getz was crushed for the trade return. Not fair. I had wanted to play him though, and not trade. I was wrong. Getz played it as well as possible aside from the peak value argument

Edit: Wrong thread

Speaking of Robert:

May 27, 2017 – The White Sox scored a coup and surprised the baseball world by announcing the signing of 19-year-old Cuban outfield prospect Luis Robert to a minor league contract. Robert’s deal included a stunning 26 million dollar signing bonus.

Robert was on the radar of Major League teams since he was 15 years old because of his speed, power and compact swing. He was considered one of the top amateur players in the world and represented a significant addition as the White Sox were rebuilding a franchise that had grown stale and had limited success on the field and in the stands.

He had a tremendous 2019 minor league season and then signed a long-term contract extension with the Sox before making his big-league debut in 2020 where he won a Gold Glove and finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting. Injuries slowed his development in both 2021 and 2022 but he had a breakout year in 2023 with 38 home runs, 36 doubles, 80 RBI’s and 20 stolen bases. Unfortunately injuries in the following seasons returned which hampered his production. He was eventually traded to the Mets before the 2026 season began…and promptly suffered a herniated disc in his back which landed him on the injured list yet again.

Cathartic is the word that comes to mind getting rid of those three.

Trading Vaughn cleared space at first to go after Murakami. I was glad to see Getz trade Sosa and open up another spot on the 40 man roster. If Getz he could get the green light to move Benintendi I would cheer that move also. The Sox are on a roll with call ups making huge contributions, they aren't done yet.

I’m sure the light to move Benintendi is very much green haha

Who else is left?

Braden? Gonzalez?

Clearly multiple relievers.

Shane Smith, maybe McDougal depending on health.

Any chance they take the savings from Robert and spend on another outfielder?

This was a legit question and the response was typically laughed at looking at the emojis from the haters.

Getz turned that money into multiple players who have had varying degrees of impact but overall it's been positive. Sandlin, Hicks , Hays ,Dominquez.

The total lack of foresight astounds me at times but that's what happens when people makes their minds that everything is terrible.

How anyone could think Robert could have another 4 or 5 War season inside him somewhere is crazy.

Anyone who thinks I'm carrying water for Getz would be wrong. I have posted that I thought the biggest mistake Getz made was not trading Robert the same time he was trading Cease after the 2023 season. Then even the Getz haters started saying the same . Getz should have traded him after 2023 season as part of their Fire Getz campaigns.

At that time pretty much the whole board thought he was Uber valuable and he was ,compared to what he ended up being traded for. So maybe he put out some feelers and asked a lot for him and got no real nibbles.Other GM knew the talent but it was his 1st season ( and only 1 ) that he played over 140 games so maybe not enough of a track record to get a kings ransom for him .That kind of how Cease got viewed too.Sure there was talent but 1 season removed from his near Cy Young year he didn't come close to repeating it.

The two seasons after 2023 the most fWAR Robert, JR could muster was 1.3. Dude just couldn't stay on the field.

I think the money mostly went to Murakami. Once he fell in their lap at that price, they decided to move Robert.

Imagine for a moment not worrying about the haters and the trolls so much that you definitely don’t have to s%*# talk when things are going good.

Not really .Almost immediately after the Robert trade were some of the ones I mentioned and right after the Robert trade Getz said he was already on the phone about other trades or free agents. He made it a point to say that Robert money from the Mets which was around $22M would be spent which ended up being pretty close to the cost to get the guys he did. Most of it went to buy out Hicks contract to get Sandlin. Dominguez got 2 years $20M ? So $10M for 2026 and Hays got 1 yr. $6M.The timeline matches up.

Getz didn't even think he could get Mune until it fell into his lap and it happened literally in maybe 2 days. He said the Mune money was an exception like an out of the ordinary thing they told Jerry was something he shouldn't pass up. Sure maybe after that they knew trading Robert was imperative to afford more players they needed but they were going to trade him anyway so the important part of it was the salary dump.

Yeah, one can only imagine. The audacity that some people have to post differing views and opinions on a message board!

Wikelman Gonzales might be next.

What's the deal with Shane Smith? Looked up his number earlier (blah ERA anyway) and noticed he only started 4 games.

🤣 During the bad times I was outgunned by almost the whole board telling me I was a water carrier and stan for Getz drinking Sox koolaid. I always preached patience and wait for the kids to arrive. Id make points that so many disagreed with I had to just pick 1 to respond to or else I'd be here 24/7 .

These were things everyone said during the 1st rebuild but it spectacularly collapse and everyone got bitter.

Now you want to play white knight because the side you were part of is getting a little reminder that things were indeed trending up and that it would take time to come up from rock bottom ? You're a freaking saint buddy.

That seems to be his entire life. Anyone that needs to get their jollies this much raging on mostly anonymous posters on a sports message board must have some issues. It’s just sad at this point. Poor bastard…
