March 24Mar 24 I'm guessing this will end any chance of Frank appearing on the pre and post game shows again.

March 24Mar 24 Man, how the hell did the Sox let it get to this point? Just pay the man a fair value for his NIL. Given that I've never heard of such a lawsuit I'd assume there are pretty standard agreements between clubs and ex players -- an agreement the Sox apparently couldn't come to with Frank.

I know that there are agreements with current players, but I would be curious how it works for former players. I also know that Fanatics just came in and took all of these contracts, so I wonder if that has something to do with it.
March 24Mar 24 Until I hear otherwise, I am operating on the assumption this is frivolous and/or testing the interpretation of that new law in Illinois. Strongly doubt the Sox would user player likenesses all willy nilly.

That said, I do see that side as well, Frank would totally file a lawsuit to f*** with the Sox, and it sounds like he's doing a bit better financially so maybe he decided to stick his finger in their eye.

March 24Mar 24 Thomas allege that his consent was not obtained for the use of his name or likeness on the City Connect 2.0 merchandise ONLY.This seems like a matter that should have been easily settled before Thomas went to one of the big hitters among law firms in town - Corboy and Demitri. IMO, unnecessary bad publicity for all concerned. Having said that there are always two sides to a lawsuit so there must have been some reason that the City Connect apparel was not subject to royalties.

If you don’t go to a lawyer first, you lose. He lawyered up for the very purpose of getting this settled. It’s becoming fairly obvious that the White Sox don’t care much about Frank Thomas being the franchise’s best player, so why should he care about Jerry and his profits?
March 24Mar 24 According to Front Office Sports Thomas wants at least 50-thousand dollars and Nike and Fanatics are also named as part of the lawsuit.

I don’t know what specific agreements Frank had with the Sox or Nike and Fanatics, but I don’t recall any other Thomas with #35 that has played for the Sox since Frank retired in 2008.

Were Lerner and Rowe not available? All joking aside, whether this is frivolous or not, its an embarrassment the Sox don't need with the best player they may have ever had. Certainly the best since JR took over.

Lerner and Rowe are 708 222-2222, so they are probably getting a lot of calls intended for them.
