Is soccer replacing all the US major sports (except NFL) in popularity?)

There was an effort years back to try to attract the subcontinent to baseball because of the similarities between it and cricket, but it really never went anywhere.

I remember this. One dude failed at both baseball and WWE…

True. He made a lot of money. And he is now a Hindu monk. He no longer even needs money.

It’s like to me when people made fun of Brock Lesnar for being unable to transition to the NFL. Like are you fucking serious, the fact he got out there and was competing with guys who never stopped playing their entire lives is incredible. Oh yea then he went and won a UFC title lol

If my son had chosen soccer over football, I would have disowned him.

Joking…

I just wouldn’t have gone to see any of his games.

Probably not joking…

I watched World Cup last night but I can’t imagine watching soccer at a lower level over American football.

I've been coaching my son in little league for a decade now and I think I can recall 2 kids who also played soccer out of all that time. I've never had anyone miss for soccer, but in the fall people would be out due to football and basketball.

Like I said earlier, the only people I know personally that have kids who played soccer was when they were like 5-8 years old, and then they move on to other sports once they start getting skills.

Brock Lesnar might be one of the greatest athletes of all time. A national championship wrestler in college, a mega star in the WWE, almost walked onto the Vikings after not playing organized football since high school which was almost 10 years earlier. That doesn't work out, so he goes eh ill just go win the heavyweight championship in UFC.

There are Indian households around the north side, so I semi-regularly see kids cricketing on a playground. That's fun. They probably sit on their bikes outside the back door of their friends' house and just yell their name until they come out.

San Antonio built a pitch on the site of a golf course they purchased. We practice at the still open driving range and I've been out there a few times watching. I would probably enjoy it more if I really understood the rules.

I see way more kids playing soccer than other sports, both when I was in Illinois and now in Texas. Interestingly even in football crazy Texas we see families deciding to not risk their kids brains in football and channel them into other sports. It's predominately at schools with high socio economic status.

Horrible red in my mind - no intent. Clear yellow. What a game…let’s go USA!!!!

Soccer is the worst. I have heard for years and years about soccer's popularity and yet nothing has changed at all in the US. Nobody I know has kids that play soccer outside of when they are 5 and cant really play anything else. They all move on to play the actual popular sports in this country when they are able to.

Soccer will never reign supreme in the US because the best athletes in this country aren't playing soccer and they never will.

I find this very surprising. Where do you live such that you don't know anyone who has had kids play soccer after age 8? That's certainly not the case in Chicagoland. I'm not saying it's more popular than other sports, but HS soccer is definitely a thing and it's not just for kids who aren't good enough to play other sports.

The concussion rates in soccer are just as bad

Yep. True story. But no one cares, cuz it’s soccer.

Football is worth the CTE in most fans’ minds. No one cares about soccer enough to care about CTE.

My only comment on this is that I remember going to Soldier Field in the 1970's a few times to watch the Sting and hearing how soccer was going to take off and be the next big thing in the U.S.

Never happened and I highly doubt it's going to happen now.

The majority of the same kids are there every season, along with some new ones. Its little league so its boundary based and the growth of the league has more to do with who lives in the area more than anything.

Im in Texas, so obviously football reigns supreme where I am.

I have yet to see anyone say they took their kids out of soccer because of CTE. I know plenty who wouldn't let their kids play football because of it.
