nobody here said it, but there is that dreaded 5 letter word starting with C. It happened.

you don't lose nine consecutive in CLE by accident...it's a mental block at this point

Lol…this team is a playoff team because of what Getz has done. The positional group is legit awesome. The pitching staff isn’t good, but has been materially impacted by injuries. Our 2025 All Star

  • Need to sign him to an extension

  • Gotta wait, they could easily be 6-7 games out come the deadline.

Brand new day! Let's get back out there and start reversing the fortunes of the last two days!

Wouldn't be shocked if one of the next two games does get rained out. Supposed to be horrible storms over the weekend in Cleveland

Tomorrow for sure

By no means do I think this is a competent bullpen but to be fair I saw recently a stat that said they have either thrown the most innings or made the most appearances (maybe both) in MLB.

That is a direct result of the Sox having a starting pitching staff that can't go deep into games and basically doesn't scare anybody. Hell they don't even have a fifth starter they can use regularly.

This is a bad pitching staff from top to bottom.

We'll never know what Getz has been allowed to do by JR but he has to bear some responsibility for putting this staff together, or maybe to the point not putting together at least a decent one for the year. (And if the Sox were flailing away in the standings again they could be used a trade fodder.)

Lol…this team is a playoff team because of what Getz has done. The positional group is legit awesome. The pitching staff isn’t good, but has been materially impacted by injuries. Our 2025 All Star & 2026 OD SP struggled out of nowhere and then got hurt. The Sox had three top 100 SP prospects in AAA who they figured would be part of the rotation mix at some point. They took on Hicks’ contract to get Sandlin, who they also felt would be part of the major rotation mix at some point. Former top 100 prospect Drew Thorpe and former top 10 prospects Ky Bush & Mason Adams were supposed to be pushing for spots by the second half. Fedde and to some extent were brought in as placeholders to eat innings until the young guys developed. Becuase of injuries to many of the aforementioned guys, we’ve had to rely on these two more than planned.

Context does matter and it’s really annoying when fans who thought this team was a lock to lose 90+ games are like “why didn’t Getz build a better pitching staff” and ignore all the factors that got us to this point.

If/when they bring back Mune, Gonzo could stay at 1B with Mune at DH , at least for the time being.

Again, IMO, that should have been done at the outset of this series. It will be difficult to pick up 4 games against Cleveland if we get swept , especially after they bring back Ramirez.

If he wasn’t ready, he wasn’t ready. Rushing Mune back is a terrible idea.

As has been pointed out all the TJS pitchers weren't expected to be back until the second half of the season, Getz knew that ahead of time.

As others have also pointed out you can never have enough pitching.

The Sox are woefully short in it.

But OK, here's the bottom line, if they want to stay in this Getz has to get help sooner rather than later. If he doesn't or can't that's on him (and JR) so we'll see how it plays out.

Read this morning where Cleveland had only a single walk-off win all year before doing it the past two nights.

@Look at Ray Ray Run - What’s so funny about this post? Would be awesome if you actually shared your thoughts & provided some counterpoints instead of doing a cowardly drive-by laugh emoji.

The latter point is totally fair. But I don’t think Getz deserves to be ridiculed for the pitching staff not being good. This team is a year ahead of schedule for many reasons that most here didn’t see coming. He also had a plan in place which relied on his young pitchers making a lot of starts. The problem is that plan has gone haywire due to injuries and Shane Smith shitting the bed. And now with a strong positional group in place, it puts what was planned to be a development pitching wise at conflict with an ability to compete in a weak AL.

Getz needs to find a way to balance two competing priories: 1) continue to develop your young core that should be able to compete for years to come, 2) take advantage of a weak American League with a team ahead of schedule.

That won’t be easy, but should be doable. He also has to take an honest look at what he has in-house to shore up the pitching in the interim. Who will be ready and what roles are willing to use them in. Tanner McDougal could really help shore up the bullpen, but do we want to risk his long term development as a SP in doing so? Those are the trade-offs Getz to needs to consider and act on fast.

While we all would love to see Reid Detmers pitching for the White Sox TODAY, I seriously doubt any team is ready to cut bait at least until the week of July 20th. Even then, there's a good half a dozen teams who will wait until the final weekend before deciding whether they buy or sell.

It might have been a terrible idea, but it was my idea, based on the information I had (watching him run on videos, Venable remarking that he was running at 85% a while back, running corners, realizing that he was hitting in the cage and on the Trajekt (sp) for a few weeks. Consider the huge impact Murakami could have had before the All Star break, including the 4 games series at CLE. Yes, they considered the risk of re-injury. Understood, but the risk of injury playing at 1st base in Charlotte might be more than the risk of DHing in the majors. He could hit a blast and walk around the bases, or get to first and send Acuna in to run. So, I respect the decision to extend the rehab to reduce risk of re-injury, but at the same time, there have already been some possible consequences - two walk-off losses (so far) knocking the Sox out of 1st place....games that Mune might have impacted. Now, if he can't swing the bat properly, that would be a different story.

That's a valid point which makes the situation the Sox find themselves in even more difficult. As usual they find themselves between a rock and a hard place. But that doesn't mean he shouldn't be trying to get help as soon as possible again assuming JR allows him to do so.

Having Luis Robert flashbacks.

If not MacDougal, then Schweitzer and Sandlin ( It's stunning to see Sandlin throwing darts in Charlotte instead of Chicago). That would be an upgrade.

Working young pitchers in the major league bullpen before putting them in the rotation is a pretty standard method of pitching development, so I hope they just bring up MacDougal when ready.
It's hard to develop a deep staff and bullpen. Actually did a pretty good job this year.

With the recent arm issues with MacDougal I'm guessing they are going to be very, VERY careful with him and I don't blame them.

Forearm soreness in a lot of cases directly leads to TJS and that's the last thing this organization needs.
