I'm not a Schriff guy, but this is true. Dan (and I think Holmes) were unbelievably butthurt about Benetti leaving and Schriff replacing him. Dan still has a personal vendetta against Schriffen because of it. Pretty ridiculous to be that upset just because he replaced Jason.

Don’t forget being upset they didn’t hire anyone with a Score background

So you felt the need to expressyour opinion, that people shouldn't express their opinions. Cool. How about you relax? Better yet, get off my lawn

Hawk called into 670 to rip into Boers and Bernstein. Classic. I miss this type of stuff.

Hineybirds!!! This was back when he would actually still talk to them, haha.

They just fired Mully and replaced him with Jarrett Payton. Talk about boring, Payton and Haugh seriously?

Wow. I thought Payton said he was leaving his job as WGN TV sports anchor to spend more time with his family.

He did say that. Perhaps he got sick of them already in less than a month. 🤣

He is working the 6am-10am. Not sure how much work, prep for the next show goes into after the show and how long they stay though.

In his case it typically wasn't beause they criticized HIM as much as they hurt the White Sox in general. He never really seemed to care about the personal attacks. I will also say the thing I liked least about Hawk was the constant stream of team propaganda that he fed.

That’s honestly the thing that puts me off Schriff so much. It like he’s reading press copy from Brooks Boyer for like 75% of the broadcast

it feels so much more disingenuous coming from him than it ever did with Hawk, because at least with Hawk you knew he’d genuinely get in a fist fight if AJ Pierzynski asked him to.

Schriffen is just some guy.

Hawk and Benetti were very different in style, but had a lot of the same things going for them that are also my biggest beefs with Schriffen

  • They both loved and had a deep understanding of baseball

  • They loved the White Sox

  • They both had out there personalities. Hawk being a half-insane cartoon character, and Jason being an affable and proud dork.

I honestly think Schriffen will be a fine broadcaster, but he doesn’t have those things and he never will, and when you’re calling 162 games it just doesn’t work.

I'd be absolutely shocked if he's back. I thought he was gone after last season. The Sox intentionally went from one of best tv booths to one of the worst. I expect them to hire an adult at some point in the off-season. It's market 3. Wayne Randazzo, Stephen Nelson, Jack McMullen, Adam Amin and countless others make plenty of sense.

Randazzo seems like a no brainer if he wants to come back to Chicago. Amin is busy with the Bulls and national gigs. Does he have enough time to call the Sox too?

Whoops, quoted an old post.

There was balance in the force with Hawk. You could tell when he was mad or frustrated. Sometimes he would just come out and say it, and hte other times he would do that quiet slow burn. But I do agree he wasn't going to lie to you in that he wouldn't say something he didn't believe.

Hawk was / is the best. My all time favorite announcer of any squad - followed closely 2nd by Stacey King / Johnny Red. Still can't believe we won't get to hear King call games anymore.

Outside of Derrick Rose, I don't think there's been a more Stacey King-flavored player on the Bulls than Caleb Wilson.

Then you add Matas.

He'd have loved calling this team so much.

I met Rose about a month ago at an event. The first thing I said to him was how incredible his tribute to Stacey King was. As an extremely amatuer announcer myself, I definitely have my favorites and take things from them, but Stacey's love of the game was so infectous. He genuninely loved the game, the Bulls, and his dudes.

His son plays high level travel baseball. Working morning M-F will be great for him.
