Would Brandon Woodruff make sense on a short “prove it” deal? He hasnt pitched much over the last 3 years due to injuries and i doubt the Brewers make a QO because of it.

I am not saying hes THE target, but worth the gamble as a second target. His profile looks solid for our park when hes on, career 41.4 GB%

Getz will still be hyping Castillo as being in the best shape of his lifetime coming into ST.

I am going to be honest here, 2005 to 2006 is in the back of my head, where we rode our top dogs hard, and then they fell off the next year for the most part. If it were me, I am 100% looking for big

  • People, for some reason, think what the Sox did towards the end of the year was this brand new strategy they will do forever instead of something they had to do because of current personal.

Why not? Agai, you assume they are going to rock a $120M payroll next year.

I think I said $125-135 million...

The one thing we still don't know is what decision will be made on MuraKami (keep, trade or extend).

It would still be a shocker to see them giving $80-120 million to King Rogers Gray or Peralta with all the big market teams all looking for starting pitching.

The Cubs alone are trying to fill at least three spots, if not four, depending on the prognosis for Steele and Horton.

Yeah I get that people want to be hopeful but I'm going to assume they are going to continue operating the way they have under Jerry. Ishbia doesn't own the team yet and I doubt he's fronting much money until he does. His focus now is on the new stadium.

And yes attendance was up significantly, but don't forget that #1, the Sox had nine figures of debt to pay off, and we have no idea what that structure or time period looked like, and what the downhill effects on operations will be. #2, we have no idea what the new Sox TV deal looks like, but by all predictions, it is a fraction of the old deal.

Looks like Woodruff is close enough to be under consideration for potential WS duty.

Probably much more willing to sign a 1-2 option year "make good" deal.

All depends on the medicals.

Feels like the kind of guy who would we be in the usually Sox shopping bin. Also, he was already offered the QO prior so he can't be offered one.

Old, coming back from an injury, nearly washed-up, or all of the above?

Weren't they interested in him before?

Cheap due to all the above is one that was missed.

Sox still won’t commit to starting Taylor or Hagen

Because the White Sox did not act like a team with a lot of money to spend at the deadline. They traded an additional prospect and contract to save money instead of taking on an entire deal.

You keep saying this, but they took on considerable money at the deadline. Jerry has always refused eating contracts before the final year and they didn’t want Dominguez on the roster any longer. Stupid way to approach things, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t money to spend. I don’t think people are realizing how ridiculously low our payroll was last year or how much a $120M would be relative to the rest of the league or what we have historically spent.

When did we ever operate with a well below median payroll when competing under Jerry?

To me, they acted like a team that had money to spend but wanted cost certainty before the lockout for a year.

Never said they wouldn't add payroll just not someone like Skubal, Michael King, Sonny Gray (hard to see him walking away from the money he's making), etc. I'd expect them to be a tier or two lower.

I don’t think they plan to. I think Taylor remains their closer for the foreseeable future. I also think Hagen gets at least one more year in the bullpen before they decide his fate.

Trust me, I realize EXACTLY how low our payroll was last year, only coming in ahead of Miami because we got an absolute late deal done after the Murakami market collapsed and Getz begging for the extra few dollars is the only reason we didn't come in last in payroll in all of MLB.

The first part ignores that they took steps to minimize how much they took on at the deadline and going forward, and it wasn't even THAT much once they forced out a contract to balance out the deal. The second part again goes to the Sox being NOT willing to spend, and doesn't exactly help the case that they have a ton of money to spend. Most owners won't keep bad players on a roster, and are willing spend over a bad deal as a cost of doing business.

I agree with this and never got around to responding to you asking what I would do with them and Noah. I think both those guys are in the pen and Hagen sees a Taylor type role he had earlier in the year when he opened/came in later for multiple innings.

Schultz starts the year in Charlotte and is first man up when there is an injury (which could honestly be during Spring Training).

Skubal is not happening, but most older pitchers aren’t getting huge long term deals. To me, the biggest thing Jerry will say no to is the years. A three or four year deal at a high AAV is something I think Jerry would supports and that might be what King is looking at (more likely four years).

Jerry isn’t most owners though. He doesn’t like paying players for not playing for his team.

Which goes to my point that he isn't willing to spend to improve the team in cases where he could actually improve the team. The Sox are looking at about $40 million in dead payroll next year.

He's 31. I think whoever gets King adds a 5th year.

This to me seems like the best plan. I wish Taylor and/or Hagen could start, but the playoffs didn’t provide me with the confidence to think they can handle a starters workload.

Ok, thought he was younger than that. 5 years is still possible, but definitely less confident.
