Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer

Pretty good point, Southsider, that seems to be the way it tends to go.

It's a close cousin to back up quarterback syndrome.

Excellent summary of the true nature of our current owner. Best post you’ve had on this site IMO.

It's been the same institutional mess for 50+ years. After decades of watching front offices, coaches, and players come and go some fans don't believe things change with a new set of names.

It's a fair point. The chairman for the last ~45 years is still the chairman. So from that perspective, the leadership is the same. However, the current baseball decision makers were not responsible for rushing the players you mentioned. We will see is that is a trend that continues, but so far I have not seen it with the current front office.

Getz was Director of Player Development starting in 2017. But he's in a new position now. The longer you follow the team the less optimistic you become. So just ignore all this. Getz probably wasn't to blame back then.

His K rate for his entire time in the minors was right around 25%. He never K'd as much as Bonemer has in his time in the minors.

Caleb has a 24.4% SO rate in the minors. Slightly lower than Colson's 24.8%. Caleb also has a .252 ISO. Nearly .100 higher than what Colson put up in the minors. Caleb is doing better in the minors at a younger age than Colson did.

You will be ready to dump in very shortly after his debut. Just like always. I can't wait for the inevitable Kaleb and they rushed him posts.

Carson Fulmer, Gordon Beckham, Oscar Colas. . . Just a couple more that come to mind.

I'm not sure any front office could have developed these 3 bums. League just whiffed on their scouting reports on these guys IMO.

Z.Collins as well…another high K guy

Then you have Vaughn Sheets Madrigal Burger

There is always that. Poor drafting sets up development for failure.

This is one way to respond to somebody proving your points wrong.

Andrew Vaughn enters the chat

Andrew Vaughn made his debut in 2021. Getz became GM in 2023.

No, you see, Jerry Reinsdorf, a billionaire, makes stupid decisions because he's cheap. He forces everyone who works for him to make the wrong move, which costs him billions in money and value, and that's how he remains chairman of the team. He once told a joke to a fellow owner that a good goal is to always finish in 2nd place, and we can interpret that as being his life's credo, but he fails at even that, which loses him billions of dollars, because he's cheap.

Until Bonemer comes up and turns into Frank Thomas, you haven't proven you opening statement true.

Don't worry. We're going to rub it in SS2K5's stupid idiot face when Bonemer comes up here and dominates.

You are correct. I guess we should blame the Director of Player Development when Vaughn was drafted. The other Getz.

Chris Getz is a continuation of a long line of loyal JR employees. He was trained by THE Kenny Williams and the amazing Rick Hahn and served faithfully under them. He has been involved in top Sox management since 2017. You can ignore everything that happened with player development since 2017 and believe this is a new, improved Getz. And honestly that makes for a much better winter.

Oooh, I can't wait for the Soxtalk special of him hitting a big homer in his first game and Ron declaring victory before he promptly turns into September Colson and he pretends he never said anything.

Wow. This is some major league leading water carrying.

You can't wait for one of our top prospects to play poorly so that you can score internet points vs. a stranger that you've never met in person?

Chris Getz developed the system into back to back playoff appearances. What a failure. 2026 is just a continuation of that string of failure. LOL.

Once Jerry Reinsdorf realized that the winning might start making him money, which he hates because he's so cheap, he had Getz promoted out of his role that was the true power center of the organization, so they started losing again. But then JR somehow thought that promoting Getz to GM would fulfil his goal of always finishing in 2nd place, so that he would leave billions on the table because he's so cheap, and Getz finished .... where?

2nd place!!! What a victory of failure!!!

No. I am not trying to create unrealistic expectations for no good reasons when guys with high K rates very often have prolonged struggles at the major league level. It will happen. And then the usual suspects will start freaking out when it does. Rinse, repeat. I can't wait to see what you change your name to next.

If his comment was a joke David Samson certainly didn't think so when he talked about it and the Sox never denied the conversation.
