Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer

Hiring from outside?

Brian Bannister

Watson

Jin Wong

Jirschele's son

Grifol

there are two more i'm forgetting

Doug Sisson maybe

advice from Dayton Moore

He basically brought over half the staff of the Royals...

Bannister never worked for the Royals. Jirschele has nothing to do with the Royals org. He was drafted by the White Sox, retired, and started coaching for the White Sox. I suppose everyone in the White Sox front office acknowledge the existence of the Kansas City Royals, so you can put everyone on your list.

I don't really follow the Padres, so why would I have an insightful treatise on their recent history? You seem to be distracted by me naming the Padres in an example - from the greater point that I'm only doing the same analysis that everyone would give any team I decided to mock for their World Series Championship failures.

If I brought up the Mariners (who have made the playoffs less than the White Sox in the last 7 years), there would be a resounding chorus of "Yeah, but..."s.

We have a huge Mariners fan here on this board.

That's simple.

You have an abundance of pitching and the 1/2/3 farm system in all of baseball...yet still can't get past .500ish Houston and Texas.

Safeco is the toughest environment for hitters ... so you're going to have trade for or draft or overpay to sign Japanese players like Sato to add them to that offense.

Naylor was a huge fail, Raleigh slumped miserably and Julio Rodriguez hasn't hit like a superstar for three years now.

Suarez wasn't the solution last year.

80% of the focus has to be on finding great young hitters.

Just like the White Sox have the opposite problem...80% of their focus has to be on the pitching side to balance out the team.

@WestEddy I sincerely hope you are correct because a fan base message board should be filled with legitimate enthusiasm and optimism for the product. I wish that 20 years from now you can tell all the young fans how you predicted the turn around of the franchise.

The true turnaround of the franchise doesn't happen without a new stadium and $200+ million payrolls....

I don't actually feel like I predicted anything. I just didn't buy into the narrative that Getz sucked because he ran the organization as director of development. I'm happy to see the team find success, I hope they continue on an upward trajectory. 103 wins would be a nice 19-win progression for 3 straight seasons.

I'll root for wins, not payroll.

That's for CLE TB Milwaukee fans.

Sox haven't proved yet they can do that on a consistent basis.

Sustaining success is much much harder than breaking through that first time...see Orioles Royals Tigers Mariners Blue Jays.

So you're on record now as predicting 103 wins next year???

Guess you will have to knock it down to a +/-100 game season prediction.

Keep rooting for wins without enough payroll to your death bed. It happened one time in the past 109 years. Let’s hope the new owner greatly increases payroll cuz Jerry’s strategy doesn’t work, and it has been proven over decades.

You know, Caulfield, this whole, "tee-hee, I'm lying about what you just wrote" shtick gets old.

6 pages later, same stupid s%*#.

LoL..

That's what you did to Southsider2K5.

He made a sarcastic comment about how the Sox/Getz were going to maybe/probably be competitive in 2029/30 "at this rate" and you ran with it for weeks and weeks like it was gospel.

All the predictions for 2027 can wait until lockout and FA and Luis Castillo's shoulder impingement prognosis are resolved.

Is that like "super-intelligence" lol?

Not saying he won't be a great hitter, but he has all of the hallmarks of a dude that sees the extremes at the major league level with his boom and bust homer and K rates. We love him now, but I am sure he will be hated for periods of time soon enough.

then it will trigger the mental illness of trade frenzy........funny how that happens and we forget the Getz is the GM..........trade problems and inherit new ones, just add more to the list of they get better after leaving the Sox

I guess guys who have less than 2 years experience in MLB are a finished product.

I hope my point was clearer. Individuals come and go, yet the problems somehow have taken root and stayed. The franchise has a net losing record over it's history and it will take decades to ever change that.

One man isn't going to change that on a long term basis, only temporary.

So we enjoy the upside seasons together and when the downside seasons happen, which we know they will, I'll complain that it's been that way all my life and you point to someone in a new position and believe they will fix it.

cheers

I suppose we both have different psychological motivations in forming an outlook.

a very broad term - much different for Royals fans and Yankees fans. You always want more games in Oct. It's a game of streaks. It's more about timing than being the better team.

3 WS titles

10,025 - 9,520 .513

Indians Guardians

10,990 wins and 8,369 losses NYY

Mine has changed over the past 15 years. What's the old saying about fool me once?

I don't know. I'm not married to the team. I root for them. I got tired of being mad all year, so I stopped paying attention to the Bears. I don't hang around on Bears' chat boards telling everyone how disappointed I am in the McCaskeys or whatnot.

Hiring people who have previously worked for other MLB teams is a losing, nepotistic strategy. Everyone knows that teams like the Guardians and Rays are successful because they look outside of baseball and hire Starbucks baristas and kids with a lemonade stand. What is Getz thinking??

Personally I'd hire every up and coming baseball person I could from organizations like the Rays, Brewers, Guardians, Braves. Those franchises have figured out how to win and be very competitive on a yearly basis it seems.

I agree. But it's just my impression that they tend to retain their personnel. Which may also be a key.

All Getz knew was the Royals...

And they were the best franchise in baseball for 2-3 years.

They made it to 2 WS in a row...and were the last mid to small market team to win, at least according to MLB.

They also had great drafts and winning minor league teams leading into that.

So it's fair to say he took 2 of the 5 most important front office members with him, and consulted with Dayton Moore and Yost as well.

However most baseball fans treat the Royals as a "loser organization" ... and that was their rep for 30+ years after Brett.

There was also a time we joked about recycling old Royals players like Mark Teahen or the 3B who wiped out TA or coaches that never went away like Buddy Bell.

The truth is somewhere in the middle.

Getz hasn't reinvented baseball.

He's simply trying to apply those 2014-15 Royals' lessons but has the complete opposite team in terms of personnel...as GRF is a homer friendly park and less reliant on OF defense/speed/base running.

He built a team around its bullpen (see KC having the best pen in history) ... but offensive contact ability, fundamentals/execution, speed, aggressive baserunning, manufacturing runs...not exactly what the Sox are good at it.

Not at all.

And now he's stuck in between because Mune and Colson don't fit that model he's trying to build, only Vargas does.

(Remember, Mune just fell into Boyer's lap, was never a part of the plan until 29 teams rejected him first.)

But somewhere along the way those players finally developed an identity and bonded together as one largely unselfish unit due to Venable's calm guidance and honestly overachieved.

So in the end Getz is neither a miracle worker nor the worst GM...but it all doesn't matter unless JR is willing to reinvest in the team again like 2019-2021.
