Caught this on ESPN Bottomline a few minutes ago, it says the White Sox have decided to release Brian Daubach, I believe he was a restricted free-agent, correct me if I'm wrong

Why release him. Would it really of cost that much to sign him for another year? Atleast keep him as a backup DH/1B.

Unfortunately to him, it might. He goes to the OTB in Oakbrook often with his fiance and just as recent as the weekend before Thanksgiving he thought he'd be back...

i liked daubach, he was not that bad. It is hard for a guy that was used to playing alomost every game to go to a team that uses him off the bench and for an occcasional start to do well. What i don;t understand is what are the sox going to do if konerko is traded who will play first base? I was planning on havind daubach be the first baseman full time if konerko was traded. does this mean konerko is going to stay?

Are we making room for Raffy?

It looks like we might be stuck with Konerko. At this point other teams realize our need for pitching and are probably asking too much. Notice how Konerko/Perez was an option a week ago.....and now it seems Lee/Perez is more suitable to LA. Maybe with the Colon deal falling through LA knows how desperate we are and want to take full advantage.

I'd be very pissed for one reason. At this point in time, a firstbaseman/DH type isn't the Sox' biggest problem. But, then again, this is the Sox and they always seem to fill holes they don't have or do lateral trades. I am not getting upset yet - I am will to refrain from being pissed until spring training.

Not for this year no (I'll wait to be pissed about that next fall - don't ya love how I schedule my temper tantrums ), I can't go to many games to begin with (max this year will be 4 unless I can score more free tickets like I have the last few years) - gotta save money for the wedding and the vacation we are taking in the fall.

That's cool. I always take my mom at least once and Brian and I try to go at least twice and his company has a skybox (or whatever those are called), but he keeps getting screwed out of those tickets. One of these years I'll get in one of those things!

That would be really sweet. A story on MLB.com right now says he is interested in the Angels. If they can sign him, they'll be a tough team to beat next year.

Daubach is the first guy they let go that I'm happy about.

I was excited when they got him, but he changed THAT fast enough.

Let him go somewhere where he'll get the ABs he needs to produce at all.

Two things. One, we have no reason and no money to acquire Rafael Palmeiro. Two, you all might be surprised that Daubach had the 6th highest OBP on our team last year. Our team was a very poor fit for Daubach as he got less than half the at-bats in all his other years.

Perhaps he did, I cannot recall any big hits or RBI delivered by him.

I do, however, recall a LOT of soft flyballs to short right field in a pinch-hitting role.

 

I hope he does well wherever he goes - I don't hate him, but I don't miss him either.
