December 21, 200322 yr Marlon Anderson I think if we get Marlon Anderson to fill 2nd base, we would have a solid 2nd baseman. He could be a good leadoff hitter considering the power we would have behind him http://www.rotoworld.com/display2.asp?spor...yers&X=6101&Y=0 Mark Redman Solid lefties don't come around to often http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6285 Braden Looper Would probably close http://www.rotoworld.com/display2.asp?spor...yers&X=5966&Y=0 Danys Baez Would be that 2nd righty needed in the pen, this would allow us to trade Koch for barely anything or even Cedeno who would be okay in Center http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6395 This would cost us probably $ 8 million dollars, but we would improve vastly. What are your thoughts?
December 21, 200322 yr I think Ozzie could do wonders with Anderson, he's already familiar with Redmen and Looper, and anyone who's first name is possesive is always good in my book
December 21, 200322 yr I haven't seen too much of Marlon Anderson, but any of the other 3 guys I wouldn't mind seeing here. I think Baez could resurect his career under Cooper.
December 21, 200322 yr and anyone who's first name is possesive is always good in my book now here is a theory that I have never heard before
December 21, 200322 yr This would cost us probably $ 8 million dollars, but we would improve vastly. What are your thoughts? Couple of comments.... Until we trade Maggs, Koch or Konerko, where do you think this $8 million is going to come from?? I agree they would be excellent players for us. Marlon Anderson would step in and start at 2B and provide us a spark at the top of the order. He only walked 41 times last year, but he only struck out 60 times. Looper would be a strong addition to our bullpen and Redman would be a nice fit at the end of the rotation in the 4 or 5 slot. Baez is the one I question the most out of this group, but he would give the bullpen depth. Lastly, I am not sure we could get all of them for $8 million. Plus, I think at least two of them will likely get two-year deals.
December 21, 200322 yr They all would do wonders for us except for anderson, because we have Harris, but surely is an upgrade. KW just thinks the world of Harris.
December 21, 200322 yr Anderson and Baez I would go get. I'm not so sure about Redman and Looper. Their away splits and the fact that they are NL pitchers worries me. I'm afraid the Sox will end up overpaying them. I'd take them, but I'd much rather have Johnson. Looper splits Redman splits
December 21, 200322 yr I don't think Anderson would be much of an upgrade over Harris/Uribe. He probably wouldn't be much of an upgrade in most categories, just older and slower. The Sox should pursue other second base options over him. It would be better to take a chance and spend money on the other three since they all have more upside than Anderson.

I disagree, Anderson would be a sizable upgrade over Willie or Uribe. He is a top of the order presence and will give you a proven contribution.
December 21, 200322 yr I wouldn't mind Gabe Kapler for centerfielder as well as taking a chance on Orlando Hernandez.
December 21, 200322 yr I didn't even notice before, but it actually mentions the Sox in Anderson's profile on the rotoworld link: Devil Rays non-tendered second baseman Marlon Anderson. There aren't many second base jobs left open for Anderson. Unless the Cardinals want him, our guess is that he'll join the White Sox and battle Willie Harris for playing time. I really hope they do sign him. We need some table setters, he's a lefty, he can steal some bases. His D is questionable, but I do remember reading that is hustle isn't, and that he has a lot of range. I could be wrong though. He could also come pretty cheap since there is not much demand for a second baseman, which is always a plus.
December 21, 200322 yr I'd get Anderson if he is cheap. Why not? It will push Willie to compete for playing time and bring out the best in him. I was looking at Anderson's splits, he hits lefty's as well as right handers even though he bats left handed. I think Anderson could be an adequate number two hitter. The Sox can use some insurance in case Willie isn't what the Sox had hoped. I could even see a platoon situation if Willie can't hit lefties. I'd platoon Valentin and Uribe too. Willie also can see playing time in the outfield. Anderson Splits
December 21, 200322 yr Aren't there any other second baseman out there???????? We need to make the Nomar deal so we can move Valentin to 2nd or trade him for Carlos GUillen.
December 22, 200322 yr I wouldn't mind Gabe Kapler for centerfielder as well as taking a chance on Orlando Hernandez. Kapler is a good bench player.
December 22, 200322 yr I haven't seen too much of Marlon Anderson... Jason Kendall has. I would have no problem with him starting at 2B.
December 22, 200322 yr Well Redman's out of the question now. Moss, Johnson, Ponson, Livan Hernandez, Duroscher are all still possibilities. Anderson's an over achiever in my mind, Philly shipped him out for some reason. Baez I would go afta dependin on how much he wants, but he's like Dan Wright a bit, the dilemma is whether he's a starter or betta comin out of the bullpen.

December 22, 200322 yr That "non-tender" list is as unimpressive as it's been in a decade. Pitiful. There's not much on that list that I'm interested in, and if this team was an actually serious contender with an owner who gave a s***, we wouldn't even have to look at that sorry list. Thanks Jerry. :fyou
December 22, 200322 yr Aren't there any other second baseman out there???????? We need to make the Nomar deal so we can move Valentin to 2nd or trade him for Carlos GUillen. Chuck Knoblauch is available.....
December 22, 200322 yr If Livan Hernandez is out there then I would try and grab him up, he looked really good last year. I really wish the sox would have picked up Mark Redman but it wasnt meant to be I guess huh. Only otther pitchers I like out their are Moss, Baez, and Looper from the non tender list that is as for FA I like Ponson but Im not sold on his skills to be honest, Urbina would be nice as well but we would need to move some contracts out beofre we make a move. It just seems like we have been waiting for the team to move salary forever and nothing is happening but I'm willing to wait a few more days to see what comes of the A-Rod trade god I hope this deal gets done already cause I feel that when this trade gets done then the balls will really start rolling for us and we can finally see what our team willl look like for 04.
