(I really wanted my own "OFFICIAL" thread)

So we reached a new record today, 187 users. That crushed the old record, and even the server...

Now's your chance to do what you can to show you appreciate soxtalk... I know the bandwidth has gone up greatly. We probably pulled more today than we were in a week last year...

I know jason posted something a couple days ago about 4 million page views or something like that...

So what can you do? See that fancy sig you've got there, host it remotely.

How do I do that? you ask.

Here's the steps...

1-Right click your sig and save it to your hard drive (put it someplace you wont lose it)

2-find a good image host -- (this is the most difficult part)

3-Upload the sig to the image host

4-Change the URL to show the new location of your sig.

5-there is no step five -- It's easy.

Here's one that sounds good to me: ImageShack (doesn't even require sign up)

Terms and Agreements for ImageShack:

ImageShack reserves the right to remove or replace any images that compromise the security of the server, use excess bandwidth, or are otherwise malignant. The services that this site provides may NOT be used for large-scale websites. The uploading of pornographic images is NOT permitted. ImageShack retains the right to modify this policy at any time, without warning.

Do not upload anything considered illegal by the United States. Doing so will result in a ban from ImageShack. Your IP (as well as the website to which the image was linked) will be reported to the proper authorities.

I am in the process of moving a bunch of files there right now...

This thread/request was done singularly by me, and without the prompting of admin or Jason. Though considering the bill jason is likely to recieve if we continue with 187 users during games here, he'll surely agree with me.

I can not yet attest to the reliability of "imageshack", so anyone who has had good, or simillarly bad experiences with an image host in the past post them here and let us know...

This is not a process that will happen overnight. But I feel I should be leading the fight considering I've provided a good number of the sigs that are currently sitting on soxtalk servers. So please, especially if I've made you a sig, find another place to store it, so we can keep Soxtalk running effeciantly,(and economically) in the future.

The host i use is called photobucket (www.photobucket.com). They let you host a ton of pics, and they have never shut down on me since i started using em about a year ago, and yes its completely free. :drink

Yeah Cheat, IMO everyone should be hosting their own sig images anyways. Thats alot of stress on bandwidth when so many image files are stored on Soxtalk. Now....I need a new sig Cheat...

It's not up yet I don't think but Google will soon be providing free webspace for everybody.

OK I moved 10 Images, from 3 different forums, (got some stuff of my slow-ass ISP) and it took all of 5 minutes --

5 minutes is not a lot people.

Thanks guys. This will definately help out. The past two months the site is using about 50 Gigs of bandwith a month. This will definately ease the load.

I also want to point out that for those that aren't computer literate, its no problem for you to continue to store your graphics on Soxtalk, thats what the server is here for. But for those that can easily do this, then its definately appreciated :)

As the site continues to grows, its these type of things that will keep the server faster, fresher and of course less costly and consider I'm a cheapass thats most excellent

Once again, its all the great posters that make this site such a blast!!!!!

And Cheat, I promise, I'll get that tshirt out to you, I just realized I completely forgot about it

Oh yeah, even though it's not accessed every day, is the Hot Chick Contest or thread still taking up a ton of space?

this thread should be pinned

Judging by the current state of my sig, IMAGESHACK, appears to not be a viable option...

Switching to PhotoBucket. Per Flipped's recomendation.

Excellent idea Cheat, anythin we can do to help out da site in sum way we should all do. Goin to put all my avatar's and siggy on PhotoBucket.

Im glad I could help. :snr

i use photobucket too works great for me. will find and switch all my stuff on to there also... :)

done to both my sig and avatar.

that was really easy.

can anyone i've made sigs for do this also, please. and pm me once you've done it... :headbang

you can host stuff there

I've been putting all mine on my free Earthlink space and it has been trouble free, except for the abysmal 3rd party sitebuilder interface they use.

Getting on yesterday sucked.

Yea, I tried loggin on yest. but it was so slow. I knew we were gonna have alot of people on, but 187!! Wow! I'm actually glad I was a part of it. :)

Here's the steps...

1,2,3,4,5....

Agreed.

Just about anybody who pays for an internet connection has some amount of webspace allotted them by their ISP.....especially all the broadband users here...

Got mine switched over, thanks for the idea by the way...

Do I have to do mine?

Do I have to do mine?

You mean your Excursion of signatures? :P

You mean your Excursion of signatures? :P

I have a pretty cool avatar too, huh? :D

I was thinking to really save bandwidth we could vote some people off the island. Then I realized it would be me :o :crying
