April 11, 200421 yr Both of them were lucky to get out of 2nd inning, given how many Yankees they walked/fell behind/threw meatballs to. Do you honestly think this Murderer's Row was gonna roll over and die when basically each of them gets a nice 2-0 count courtesy of Danny Wrong before even stepping up to the plate? Yep, that's exactly the kind of ineptitude that allowed them to win 4 Championships in 7 years. When Crede hit into 1/3rd DP and when Rowand failed to get the bunt down.....Sox basically lost at least 2 runs. Then Valentin costs them another. That's a 3 run swing -- instead of the score being 5-0, it was only 3-1. Given how poorly Wright is pitching, 3-1 was obviously not enough. Yankees aren't over-anxious anymore because they knew it was a matter of time before Danny fell behind 3-0 and floated a change-up in their wheel house. Let's see what the Sox are made of -- both KC and Twins have 2 late inning comebacks each. Sox have none. 4 more innings to go. f***ing Crede with another GIDP.

April 11, 200421 yr The job of a 5th starter is to keep the team in the game. Last I looked the Sox are in the game and they were going up against the Yanks #1 pitcher. He may not of been great, but he gave up like 4 hits and 4 earned runs. I'll take it out of my 5th starter in New York.

It would be nice if we blew em out every game, but that's not gonna happen. This game is still winnable.

I too will be happy with a split (I predicted Sox take 3 of 4, but I was clearly smoking crack pipe) --- but not with the MANNER in which such split was achieved. Both Garland and Show would have been ROCKED Neal Cotts 2003-style if Yankees were in mid-season form. And you know what? Sox lost a game to KC they should have won. This game we should lose -- I hope we pull out a dramatic comeback because we NEED it badly.
April 11, 200421 yr Author Let's see what the Sox are made of -- both KC and Twins have 2 late inning comebacks each Make that 3 for Minnesota in just 6 games. Wow.
April 11, 200421 yr brando i'm seriously sick of hearing you say literally nothing good about the sox. Garland, though wild, was not just "lucky" to get the win. You're starting to annoy me
April 11, 200421 yr What the Sox need to do is put Wright back in the bullpen in the long relief role that he was born to play and put either Adkins or Cotts in the 5th starter position.

You're starting to annoy me SoxTalk has enough clueless homers, I figured why not be a little more critical for a change.....It annoys you? Guess I am doing something right. Btw....I predicted 92 wins going into this year.....How many did you predict? Yeah, I thought so.

No to Adkins. Cotts has looked good, but as Danny Wright has shown, bullpen and starting rotation are two different things. What pissed me off the most was that Danny was pitching like crap up until he gave up the homer....And then when the damage is already done, he gets a couple of beautiful curves over to the next batter -- it's like, WHY couldn't you do that to Crosby? He would've struck out, inning over. It's a mental thing I guess.

Yeah, I thought so. is there a list of who is predicting what????????? for me, i will go out and say 92-96 wins, winning the central and i need to see more for me to say they will go further.

Wright is certainly no MB but I think he held his own very well & gave us a chance to win. As soon as Crede learns what the meaning of "CLUTCH HIT" is then I think we'll be ok.
April 11, 200421 yr Author YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME, adkins made the roster????????? who did he sleep with to make it??? St. Ray of Durham legacy lives on
April 11, 200421 yr What's wrong with Adkins so far this season? He earned his spot on the roster, I think he pitched close to 11 or so innings in spring training and gave up like one run. And hasn't he pitched like two or so innings so far this year and not allowed a run? He's earned his spot - damnit, quit being so freaking negative. Our team just split on the road, with arguably the best team in the AL, the Yanks. We were in a position to win five out of the six games we played - one of the games, we were dominated by Vazquez. But we lost one on a pretty freaky incident, in which Marte just was awful. You think that's going to happen in June? Today we lost where our fifth starter went up against their ace, we lose by one, but everything is terrible? IMO, Cotts deserves a shot to start. Even though Wright kept us in the game, if there's someone who can possibly be better than him (Cotts), then you go with the guy who you think gives you a better opportunity to win. I guess that's Ozzie's decision.
April 12, 200421 yr What about Rauch? I definitely think Felix Diaz has surpassed Rauch on the depth charter.
April 12, 200421 yr Author I definitely think Felix Diaz has surpassed Rauch on the depth charter. I thought one needed more than 2 ML-caliber pitches to succeed in the majors as a starter.
April 12, 200421 yr I thought one needed more than 2 ML-caliber pitches to succeed in the majors as a starter. To be honest I don't know what pitches Felix throws but I know he throws them hard and he sure has put up good numbers since joining us. I also should have said that in my opinion I wouldn't put Rauch far behind.

The Twins nor Royals have faced Mariano Rivera for their 'comeback' win. Cool your jets, we are 6 games into the season and if the Twins and Royals need to depend on late inning comebacks all year, then they are f***ed. Ours will come.

I didn't see the game, but from the looks of it, we hung in on their ace with our little fifth starter that could. I expect 10+ wins out of Danny.

Cool your jets, we are 6 games into the season and if the Twins and Royals need to depend on late inning comebacks all year, then they are f***ed. Ours will come. They will be f***ed. Realistically, can anyone expect the Royals/Twins to consistently come-back and win during the late innings. I'm not worried or phased by this trend; how about KC and MIN dominate the first 7 innings and not the last 2.
April 12, 200421 yr I thought one needed more than 2 ML-caliber pitches to succeed in the majors as a starter. Felix has always thrown a fastball, slider and a plus changeup. Nothing wrong with his stuff and he is still pretty young. Rauch got hurt, case closed. He'll never be what everyone once expected him to be. Prospects get these projections when they are really young and when they don't meet them its turned into how big of bums they are. Most of the time, guys don't pan out near their potential level. If 10% of super star prospects panned out, each team would have 4-5 SUPERSTARS. And you want a two pitch pitcher, look at Randy Johnson. He's probably one of the best two pitch pitchers of all time. Jarrod Washburn is essnetially a one pitch pitcher (He's basically all fastballs).
April 12, 200421 yr Author To be honest I don't know what pitches Felix throws but I know he throws them hard and he sure has put up good numbers since joining us. I also should have said that in my opinion I wouldn't put Rauch far behind. Firstly, Diaz wasn't that impressive last year. Also....yes, since he doesn't have Pedro's control, he WILL need a third pitch. How many successful two-pitch starters you know? Matt Clement? But Clement has an excellent slider when he is healthy so he'll able to compensate -- how is Diaz's breaking ball? I want Wright gone from the 5-spot, but if he is going to be replaced by another 5.00+ ERA rookie, he might as well stay.,
