Has AROW earned another look?

Featured Replies

4 out of 7 today.

It's obvious that he has plenty of talent, he is a more then solid defensive CF, and he is now hitting .245 with 4 HR and 10 RBI's who is more the capable of hitting .270-.290 over a full season and hit over 20 HR's.

I saw lets not just give up on a guy who obviously has the talent.

I'm sure there is some GM out there who is just salavating thinking about jumping on AROW and getting him in a trade after we give up on him.

I'd hate to see our lack of faith coming back to bite us in the ass.

I think that they should just stick with the platoon they have going now with timo and rowand.

He's at the very least earned some more playing time. I like how Timo Perez can sit on the bench for several games and still come in and hit well. I think they've both earned some at-bats.

Consistency earns starting spots.

He can play as a reserve he proved it today.

Rowand is a streaky guy. He did this last year as well, with the slow start and then then the huge streak. I imagine Ozzie will ride him the sameway that he has rode his other hot players.

I agree. Ozzie has done a good job keeping his bench productive. Keep riding the guy until he fizzles, while still getting others in enough games to stay semi-sharp when needed.

Rowand, more than most guys, should be decent in a platoon role. His past numbers inidicate as much.

The thing I never understood is why Rowand is labeled a part-time player and is harshly criticized, yet Joe Crede seems to get a free ride. Don't get me wrong, I like Crede as well, but both players got off to crappy starts last year and Rowand was the odd man out.

This year, Rowand is doing better than Crede on most accounts. I am not advocating mediocrity here, but to me there seems to be a different standard. I guess it is easier to find a replacement for an OF than a 3B.

His OPS against left-handed pitching is over 1.000

His OPS against righties? :puke

That's all that anyone needs to know. :D

And I remember him making two leaping catches at the wall in the same game last year. One would have been a home run, and the other would have been a double or triple. What happened to this defensive phenomenon since last year?

He has not shown to have plenty of talent at all. He has shown to have talent in spurts. He does not obviously have talent for an everyday position. He obviously has talent of a 4th or 5th OF and that is it. I think he has proven that.

I am all for AROW, but from what I have seen he is nothing more than a 4th or 5th OF. He has done nothing to prove that he is more than that. He was finally given his opportunity this year and he couldn't handle it. I always liked to compare him to a Lenny Dykstra, but he has come nothing close to Nails. Too bad, cause AROW has a great personality and seems to be a great team mate. I just wish he had more talent.

I also remember Carl Everett making a leaping catch against the wall last year saving a game for us. There is no way that Everett would ever be considered even a decent CF. AROW is not a good defensive CF nor has he ever been considered one.

I think you answered your own question.

Uribe's hitting .340 and is playing 2B, SS, and 3B.

What the hell was so hard about that?

As I have said before, at some point, you have to decide whether you want Timo Perez(and Aaron Rowand against LHP) or Joe Crede out there for you, because at this point, we have Uribe, Harris, and Valentin all playing pretty much 2 spots with Perez/Rowand in CF(which seems to be fine so far), and Crede is hitting .215 at 3B. Something has to be done.

Crede may very well be the next Robin Ventura, but right now, he is not. If we can get an ace, but it includes having to give up Crede, you do it.

BTW, to answer the original question...Rowand hits lefties well(as I believe hammerhead pointed out). Not so much righties.

I have no problem with Rowand starting against lefties, pinch hitting against lefties, and coming in as a defensive replacement in late innings.

Starting him against righties, is just setting him up for failure.

We have Harris and Perez who will be good enough against righties that Rowand just is more of a risk on those days than an asset.

Are you for real? Because I thought that was his primary asset before the season started.

But hey, I've been baffled before. I thought that Roger Clemens was washed up. I thought that the Aaron Miles for Juan Uribe trade was horse s*** at the time. Live and learn.

Aaron has earned the right to play CF and hit #2 against lefties --

He has thrived in the #2 hole in the past, and has done the same this season.

I've always felt Aaron Rowand is a pretty good CFer(and for the most part, his range factor agrees...in the year he started the most games, 2002, his range factor was 3.08 with the league's average being 2.78), especially considering his natural postion is RF. He's got a strong arm, reads the ball well off the bat, and has some speed to get to the ball.

I have no problems defensively with Aaron in CF. It's his bat that gets him in trouble, especially against RHP.

I am for real. I don't care what his range factor states. Watch the man play. He gets horrible jumps on balls and doesn't have great speed in order to compensate. He has never been thought of as a good defensive CF.

I think he should ride on a bus to Charlotte and the bus should bring Reed back to Chicago after it drops off Rowand...

Just because you do not consider him a good centerfielder does not mean the majority feels the same way as you. But i am with you on this one i think he is a pretty s***ty centerfielder this year.

Arow should start only against lefties until he proves he can hit righties worth a damn this season.

I did not see Sunday's game when he got his 4 hits. Does he still have the same idiotic stance with his hands up against his chest?

Yeah

I agree right now the platoon looks good.

If AR only hits lefties, he only plays vs. lefties.
