update on trades

Featured Replies

per. Otis at the WSI board....

"I stand by my previous statement of the White Sox wishlist being Ben Sheets, CC Sabathia, and Freddy Garcia. Since the last post, nothing much has changed. My source has told me to expect a trade sooner than later. He said that the Sox haven't promoted Reed or Borchard because he expects one of them to go in a trade. As he put it, with Magglio's impending free agency the White Sox need to bring up one of those guys to see if either would be a viable replacement. It doesn't make baseball sense to leave these guys in the minors when the baseball world thinks both are major league ready. Bringing either up now has more of a chance to hurt their value than increase it. If either were to be promoted and stuggle their value is shot. Also, what if one of these guys comes up and goes crazy. Sure, the trade value goes up, but how does KW sell it to you the White Sox fan that he is trading away a major league star. It was pointed out to me that a team like the White Sox can't afford a PR nightmare like this. The fact that KW is going out of his way to say Joe Borchard is untouchable, only means he is driving his price up. The Sox (White & Red) are sending a scout to Anaheim to watch Sheet's start this week. Word on the street is Kenny will pull the trigger on a trade for a starting pitcher in the next two weeks and promote the remaing player (Reed or Borchard). After that, expect him to acquire a reliver around the deadline."

sounds great to me.

Now that is a business move that actually makes sense. To be honest, Kenny is in a great spot right now in making trades. He has so many recources (abundance of players) to work with, not cash. He'll push for a pitcher near the deadline.

-List of players likely to be gone

Wunsch-575,000+a possible 100,000. He is expendable and flexible. He has about 1-2 options remaining on his deal and years left. Could be excellent trade bait.

Rauch-300,000. League minimum. Kenny Williams says he may never pitch in the White Sox Organization again. We shall see the outcome. Could be traded with Reed/Borchard for Kris Benson and Jason Bay. Time will tell what will become of him.

Borchard-300,000. League minimum. Salary bonus paid off. I wouldn't be too suprised to have a big price up for him.

Koch-6.5 million-Piece of s***. Needs to do something with control. Will be awfully hard to trade.

Lee, Konerko, could be brought up in trades too.

well, kenny already said that no players on the major leauge roster will be traded... i know that things change, but id look for paulie, lee to stay... with maggs a question mark, u gotta keep those 2 to hold the lineup together around franky and the top 2 combo of urbie and willie

Koch isn't going anywhere, and with Maggs out, I guaran-f***ing-tee you that Caballo and Kong are staying put too unless we get an absolute stud pitcher in return(ala Jason Schmidt)

I would give up a lot for Jason Schmidt. He is - a stud, a horse, an ace. Everything.

Ben Sheets is a dream. Imagine having a young 1,2,3 of Sheets, Buehrle and Garland. Then imagine if Garland fully developed. In that situation, we wouldn't need Magglio, per se. We'd just have an Oakland A's situation on our hand.

Guillen could make a killing with scrungy players and three top rotation starters.

I see the Red Sox were mentioned. ;)

I would too.

But the Giants are over .500 now and are back in the race. They are probably another pitcher and a bat away from being big time contenders. So Schmidt probably won't be available.

good news. hopefully it turns out to be correct... :headbang

And a possible injury concern...

And a possible injury concern...

Yeah - Felipe Alou seems to be Dusty Baker 2, or vice versa. 144 pitches against the Cubs IIRC, and the next game 120+.

Like Dylan said, though - If we got Sheets, a rotation of Buerhle - Garland - Sheets would just be so damn awesome. I know we'd have to give up a lot, but... Damn. :headbang

Sheets will be a good addition now and for the future. starting pitching is the key to winning games. any upgrade to the 5th spot and wins from this spot will be greatly appreciated.

I really hope this guy isn't yanking our chain. I'd love to have any of those SPs.

IMO... yank, yank....

But I wouldn't blame him. He's just passing along information.

That's really what I'm thinking. I'm not getting my hopes up.

I really hope KW can come through and get us some kind of starter, so we have a rotation of 5 in the near future.

I know Sheets can be outstanding, but if I had to pick one I would take Sabathia.

I just really like the way he pitches, and think that he will be oustanding the rest of his career, and be some one you can always count to pitch 180 innings + and keep your team in the game.

I just cant see why the Indians would want to trade him.

IMO... they don't. Here's my take on this news... Someone had an idea, told someone else, told someone else, and they told someone else. Along the way one of those people said.. "hey, that would be cool, what if.." or "how about if...", and the rumor was born.

No one in Milwaukee has even heard anything about the Sox even asking about Ben.

I dont talk about the validity of rumors because the fact that they are rumors suggests that most are not valid at all, or just slight truth.

Also if you were a GM, would you really want to tell alot of people what your trade was?

Id want people to think the exact opposite of what I was doing.

Got a big dick, too. Reckon it shouid raise his value some. Throw in Koch and Reed and call Moreno regarding Russ Ortiz's availability. Not a great PR move, but it addresses several needs.

Got a big dick, too.

 :puke

I wouldn't mind if we traded Reed now just as long as we got someone good (Sabathia or Sheets). The odds of good minor league players living up to their hipe is 1 in 100. Sabathia and Sheets are proven players and can get us to the next level.

As it has been said several times on this board. i can't see cleveland trading CC within their division. It just doesn't make sense. Sheets would be a great addition to the sox and would solidify the rotation.

the guy, otis, who orrignally posted this on WSI, works in the front office for the bosox... and has some ties to the white sox as well... i guess that from what ive heard he has reported 9 trades, including the manny-arod-maggs-nomar deal... that was 2 months before the media had heard anything... it didnt fall through, but the talks were real... this gives the guy some credibility in my book

I believe you are incorrect.. and that he does not work for them but knows someone who works for them.

As for what's he reported.. you can do a search on WSI and see what he's said and when. Then compare it to the comments Bruce Levine has made and the coinciding dates.. food for thought.
