June 25, 200421 yr This is a great deal if Ortiz can return to the year when he finished like 2nd or 3rd in cy young voting(it was either last year or 2 years ago). But, it's not like he's been bad this year, so I'm happy no matter what. Also, I'd like to see who we gave up to make this trade.
June 25, 200421 yr PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE! I think Ortiz would be plenty fine for me. The only problem with him is the amount of walks he gives up. He was a 21 (?) game winner last year so that aint bad by any stretch of the imagination.

June 25, 200421 yr Author Wait. Any word on the prospects? The guy I talked to said he heard Rauch's name upon some other players he didnt know, but I can't see Rauch moving especially with Shoney on the DL now.
June 25, 200421 yr so is Ortiz the Ace or the stopgap? Ortiz is slightly worse than Freddy Garcia. A #2 at best, which works out for the Sox. Jon Boy will get to man the 4th spot now, which is where he belongs. And then, perhaps, we'll get Randy Johnson??? Do it now, KW!

June 25, 200421 yr "They just said this deal is not going to happen." - from chisox.com board Who said that?
June 25, 200421 yr You have to remember Russ Ortiz's #'s are down this year but also mostly do to Atlanta sucking ass this year. I think Ortiz would be huge if they get him.
June 25, 200421 yr With Schoe going down a trigger is going to have to be pulled soon, and I mean soon, like before this game is over or right after. Diaz vs. Cubs? Please no...
June 25, 200421 yr I wouldn't be surprised if an OF is traded with our over abundance... I'd probably give up an OF and either a middle infielder or a pitcher.
June 25, 200421 yr Ortiz is one of the more overrated pitchers in the game. Even when he pitches great he is often spent after 7 innings because of the ridiculous amount of balls he throws. He is slightly overweight, he leaves his pitches too high (when he throws them for strikes), if he ever loses a little bit of velocity, he is f***ED. He also averages 4-5 bb's a game. I don't like the thought of him pitching in a small park like the cell either. His ERA is 5.54 when he isn't playing in spacious Turner Field. Luckily we don't need Cy Young, so as long as we don't trade Reed, Borchard, Sweeney, or Honel I don't mind this trade. Otherwise it is a risky trade.
June 25, 200421 yr even though bruce levine said it was not happening is he always right??? Anyone else remember him being wrong

I like Ortiz. He throws a lot of pitches and sometimes fails to go deep into games, but he's a good pitcher. I wonder what the Braves would be getting. I hope the Sox could somehow do the deal without giving up a top prospect, however, you have to give something to get something. Anyone know what Ortiz's contract is? Also, you'd have to think Rauch helped his trade value with yesterdays outing.

Maybe I'm wrong, I know its not a small park, but I always though the stadium had pretty high homerun numbers. Well, its not as small as the Cell, but its not Safeco either.
