Let's see how horrid the Trib is on...

Who gets the main story???

Cubs squeaking a victory, or the sox killing one of the hottest teams in the AL by 14 and a 2 hitter.

SOSA Crushes Homer To Lead Cubs to Victory in Driving Rain!!

Mark Buehrle Flirts With Perfect Game, Pitches 2 Hitter as Sox Squeak Past Indians 14-0

Couldn't have said it better myself..

Right now, the Tribune's website (chicagosports.com) has "Buehrle flirts with perfection...", and has the Cubs winning underneath it in regular font. I can't believe it, but we're actually the bigger headline, as of now anyway.

:o

The allegations against the Trib has always been unfounded...I have been saying it forever

I have seen very good representation of the Sox every time they have done something that deserved it

Such baseles whining is what give sus Sox fans the bad name to people like Moronnotti.....we really need to quit with this baseless Trib bashing....sorry it ain't true

Go over to WSI and look for Hangar18. He has a running count of how many Cubs to Sox stories are run in the Major papers around here. Last I checked it was 1129 to 817 in the Cubs favor. A majority of those coming from the Trib.

Sorry, it is. But not as bad as we make it out to be.

The lead paragraph in the Trib story:

CLEVELAND -- When you think of pitchers throwing perfect games, Mark Buehrle wouldn't be one who comes to mind.

No disrespect to Buehrle's talent, but he is someone who is always around the plate with his pitches and seldom overpowers hitters.

The more times the ball is put into play, the more chance there is for a ball to fall for a hit.

Any guesses on how it would read if Jesus Prior faced the minimum?

whats wrong with that its true.... prior gets more K's and buehrle lets the defense do most of the work... if you think of perfect games you think of overpowering pitchers like randy johnson who get a lot of K's and that isnt buehrle

I like the front page to today's Sun Times - and I don't mean the Sports Section, the real front page -

DALEY: FIX WRIGLEY OR I'LL SHUT IT DOWN

Now that's a headline!

I have to agree with this. I just don't see it WAY to one side.

OK? And that is probably better than the ratio of Cubs "fans" to Sox fans in this city. Sounds appropriate to me.

Almost perfect

Buehrle is 5th or 6th in the al in strikeouts so he does strikeout quite a few this year.

K's = outs

Ground outs = outs

So what's your point? As far as I know, strikeouts get your pitch count higher.

he is currently 6th, with Garcia at 4th.

:notworthy :notworthy

but it's pretty reasonable to say that batted balls have a much better chance of dropping or finding holes than do unbatted balls. yeah, Ks'll run up your pitch count, but that's part of the reason there are so few perfect games and no-nos: guys wear down and it gets broken up. i'm pretty sure if you look at the types of pitchers who've recorded games like that, there are more guys with sick stuff like prior than savvy finesse guys, which is what buehrle's considered.

i don't think any of this is a knock on buehrle, but there are people who would. there's a big movement (mainly cuz of sabremetricians and moneyball) glorifying strikeout pitchers because some studies have concluded that a pitcher has absolutely no control over what happens on a play in which the bat gets on the ball. this is intuitively bulls***, but numbers seem to say otherwise. personally, i prefer crash davis's advice: groundballs are more democratic.

all that said, buehrle has been striking out a lot more guys this year, so the report was kinda ignorant to characterize him according to past reputation.

Very well said. I agree with everything you said and it's definitely bulls*** that strikeout pitchers are better then groundball pitchers, like yoda said, outs are outs.

Stop the "cub-love", Sport!

BTW, I'll take Buehrle over Prior ANY day of the week!

the point is the more the ball gets put into play the more the chance for a guy to get on base thats my point and since with dusty prior can go 140 pitches.... im not a cubs fan and i like buehrle more then prior but in their careers even if buehrle is the better pitcher prior has a better chance to throw a perfect game. Not to mention that prior is also in the NL where he gets to face easier lineups overall and a pitcher.

Shuf

If you don't see what you like, get used to it. Its a Chicago Cubs town for the writers. Notice how the Cubs are owned by the tribune. They actually gave the sox better coverage today. And if you don't want to read them, pick up a daily herald or a Chicago Sun Times...how about that one, big boy?

Sorry, it is. But not as bad as we make it out to be.

Not to praise a Cub, but people say the same thing about Greg Maddux. IIRC, I don't think he has thrown a no-hitter in his career.

Throw strikes = get hit.

Throw overpowering strikes = get strikeouts.

None of the Braves pitchers, except for maybe Smoltz, was overpowering, they just nibbled a lot. As has been said many times in this thread...an out is an out.
