Indicators measure the nation’s unemployment rate, consumer spending and other economic milestones, but Vice President Dick Cheney says it misses the hundreds of thousands who make money selling on eBay.

“That’s a source that didn’t even exist 10 years ago,” Cheney told an audience in Cincinnati on Thursday. “Four hundred thousand people make some money trading on eBay.”

 

"If we only included bake sales and how much money kids make at lemonade stands, this economy would really be cooking,” Edwards said in a statement."

Its sad, but I think out of all 4 of the Pres/VP canditiates, Edwards is the only one who might have a clue how ordinary folks live.

Yeah it's sad that Kerry got the nomination based on his ability to beat Bush. Yet to me it seems that Edwards is a more charismatic likable guy, more Clintonesque, and would have a better chance dethroning the powers that be.

Cheney is right. Some eBayers are full time sellers, others are selling overseas on the internet and that doesn't count in our economic numbers. Then there are the barters and traders who are underreporting their sales/transactions. You also have the cash workers like auto mechanics who work part time out of their garages.

 

Too bad Edwards and the rest of his party aren't bright enough to understand that. This may be the lasting legacy of Bush's terms, the cash economy.

 

We don't need some fancy rhetoric in the oval office. We need a tough wrangler like Bush to stare down terrorists.

You're buying into the media's negative portrayal. The networks and newspapers do not want to admit the internet is helping millions of people make considerable incomes. Poor Bush, he's got a big battle to get out the truth and no where to tell it.

Nope, the internet has created a unique situation in our economy. How much money flows out to internet sites in pornography and gambling sites? Those people are making money but not being reported in US numbers. Bartering is at it's biggest levels in over 100 years. The internet has opened up opportunities for bartering beyond the neighberhood dentist swapping services with the auto mechanic. Do a search and find out how easy it is to join a bartering club.

People are more willing to invest overseas and expand beyond our borders. As their personal wealth increases, they spend more money here in the US creating more jobs then if they didn't move some jobs overseas. Nope, trickle down works. We must allow the real movers and shakers in the world to make even more money. They already are paying too much in taxes. If we cut their taxes and allow their companies to earn even more in profits, we all win down the road. That is the GOP tax plan and as a new proud conservative, I support it 100%.

The thing I most respect about Edwards was that he's earned everything he has. He wasn't given a damn thing. Wasn't born into privledge, just busted his butt to get to where he is today.

on a side note, how will the unemployment rate change when the hundreds of thousands of reservists come back to the US and back to their jobs which are protected by law.

* The business will decide to absorb 2 people for that position or create a new one.
