September 23, 200421 yr That's $4 million towards the payroll. While Williams declined to confirm that Cliff Politte and Shingo Takatsu will return to the Sox' bullpen next season, indications are that the team will pick up the contract options on both. The White Sox are only expected to be in the hunt for one reliever and one starter for next season's pitching staff. The Sox are not expected to pick up the option on the contract of Sandy Alomar Jr.
September 23, 200421 yr I hope to read a retirement notice on Sandy and an announcement he will be coaching somewhere in the system. I do not mind reloading for next season. Keep Shingo and Cliff.

September 23, 200421 yr Politte is stronger than most FA relievers out there. For $1.3 mill, if he can improve on his '04 season, the price would be right
September 23, 200421 yr This is great news in my opinion. Cliff started out bad but in my opinion came on real strong at the end of the year. He will contribute huge next year. Shingo should be the setup man next year though in my opinion. We need a real closer.
September 23, 200421 yr I have no problem with Politte coming back. I think he is a pretty decent RP.
September 23, 200421 yr as long as he's not our #1 set up man.... That has got to be shingo next year if not we are f***ed.
September 23, 200421 yr I am a huge Pollite fan, so I am very pleased with him coming back next season. I expect a 3.40 ERA. If he never had his three really bad outings his era would be in the low 3's actually probally in the 2's. So that shows how good he was outside of those the bad outings.
September 23, 200421 yr I know it might be too late in the game, but I would love to see Cliff work on an improved offspeed pitch to help setup his heater, and vice versa. He's almost completely a fastball pitcher, and struggles if he's not on.

September 23, 200421 yr Good news. Pollite and Shingo are good men to have down there in da pen. Solid move.
