September 24, 200421 yr Who would beat him the only guy I can think of is Bobby Crosby from Oakland Lew ford is eligble i think.
September 24, 200421 yr Lew ford is eligble i think. Actually Lew Ford is not. he spent too many days on the roster last season. So even though he didn't have the # of AB's to disqualify him from rookie status. Time on the bench cost him the award.

September 24, 200421 yr I think the candidates are Takatsu Crosby Madritch Cabrera - Baltimore.(he was really good before getting worn down and being pretty bad -- Made his debut against Chicago winning 1-0) Greinke
September 24, 200421 yr I hate the fact that the forgein pros are allowed to be ROY canditates. I love Shingo, but he should not be eligible for this award
September 24, 200421 yr I hate the fact that the forgein pros are allowed to be ROY canditates. I love Shingo, but he should not be eligible for this award Why not? I still haven't heard a good argument for this. Should players who play professionally overseas not be able to win the NBA rookie of the year? Fact of the matter is its his first season in MLB and he should be eligible for the award.
September 24, 200421 yr saves are overrated. One of is not the most over-rated stats in baseball. I mean anyone should be able to come in and save a 2 to 3 run lead. Saves should just be a 1 run lead maybe 2.

Fact of the matter is its his first season in MLB and he should be eligible for the award. They are professional players. That is my arguement. You might as well make someone who gets traded from the AL to the NL eligible as well because in my eyes it is the samething.
September 25, 200421 yr They are professional players. That is my arguement. You might as well make someone who gets traded from the AL to the NL eligible as well because in my eyes it is the samething. Minor leaguers are professional players as well.
September 25, 200421 yr Minor leaguers are professional players as well. Well if you want to split hairs, they come from the Japanese Major league, and not the minor Jap league, then they should not be considered rookies.
September 25, 200421 yr To me, a rookie is a relatively young guy(usually from the age of 29 or so on down) in his first year in the league. That is what a rookie should be anyways, IMO.
September 25, 200421 yr To me, a rookie is a relatively young guy(usually from the age of 29 or so on down) in his first year in the league. That is what a rookie should be anyways, IMO. I would say even younger than that because 28-32 is suppose to be most players prime.
September 25, 200421 yr He has absolutely no chance 1- Look what they did to Matsui last year and quite frankly, Matsui's rookie year was a hell of a lot better then Shingo's. 2- I would choose Crosby over him anyway because he is a shortstop and a hitter who has really helped their team now that Tejada is gone. I would also probably choose Madrisich over him because it is probably the hardest thing to do, to come in as a rookie starting pitcher and be as succesful as he has.
September 25, 200421 yr I say he shouldn't be eligable. I said the same thing about Matsui last year, so I won't change my view.
September 25, 200421 yr Shingo won't win this, it will go to Crosby. I guarantee that. oh no, a knucklesox guarantee i dont like the japanese players being eligible either. anyways, crosby should win it
September 25, 200421 yr I say he shouldn't be eligable. I said the same thing about Matsui last year, so I won't change my view. I agree he shouldn't be eligible but he is so he should be the ROY, imo.
September 25, 200421 yr I agree he shouldn't be eligible but he is so he should be the ROY, imo. Agreed.
September 25, 200421 yr Let me see if I can understand this correctly. You guys want a reliever(and I'm not even going to bother with the numbers), who was closer for half of a season for a 2nd place team that tanked in the second half to be ROY over Bobby Crosby, who is the starting SS for a playoff team(even if they don't make the playoffs...I will still view them as a playoff team), and is a big part in their success too. He does not have outstanding numbers(.250 21 62 .775), but I still think he deserves it more then Shingo.
September 25, 200421 yr Team success should not be part of the quaifications for ROY. Maby for the MVP award, but thats a thread for another day.
