Why does the media keep saying we're going for Beltran. His agent happens to be Boras and I don't think they want to give him over $12-13 M this off-season. Why must we trade Lee or Konerko and then sign Beltran. Carlos Lee is good enough for me if we can spend that money elsewhere. I definitly wanna see Konerko on the team next season. He's just got an amazingly smooth swing.

Sportswriters have to find ways to fill up their columns, so a non-story is better than no story, I guess....

Actually, I think we will go after him. Doesn't mean we'll succeed, but the organization has shown a willingness to spend on worthy players, which certainly includes Beltran.

Konerko's swing may look real nice, but it will take more than that for the White Sox to start winning on the road.

beltran looks good, so why not speculate...even tho his post season so far has made his stock skyrocket

Other than Albert Belle, I can't remember the Sox stepping to the front of the class in the free agent market.

 

Add in the Boras factor, and Beltran's excellent play this month, and I simply don't see him coming to Chicago.

 

Besides, considering the decline of Bernie Williams and Steinbrenner's printing press funded by the YES Network, the Yankees have to be considered the front-runners.

 

And I'd put the Dodgers, Angels, Cubs and Astros ahead of us, too

It was reported somewhere that Beltran MAY be considering switching agents. Nothing on that front will happen until after the season, but I have seen one report and one only on that subject.

Talked about it, but never did. Borass is still being quoted in the papers re: Belt's pending FA. He was just in the Trib TH or FR.

I think that'd be nice if the Sox went for Beltran, but I wouldn't want them to give up both Lee and Konerko.

I can hear the price raising for this guy... We won't get him. We will be in competition with both the Cubs and the Yanks, and no matter the $ figure he's offered, they can match, and he will chose one of those over the south-side.

Giambi can't play 1st. I think he'll play as many games at first in 05 as Big Frank. Giambi's legs really look like they are giving out on him. I think that's a big part of why he was so mediocre a year ago.

I don't think we would have ever gone after him. He just doesn't fit our needs that well. There are many other positions we could spend big money on and get a much more quality upgrade over what we have now.

Goddamnit, who cares if it's not gonna happen? What's the point of looking forward to the offseason if we can't speculate and throw out possibilities?

 

In all likelyhood, it isn't going to happen...Beltran will almost undoubtedly get $15-17 mill, and that is something the Sox simply cannot afford. But why not consider it? Why not *pretend* that just for the weeks leading up to the offseason we do have a shot at Beltran, and we can imagine him in our lineup?

 

I can stand negativity...I have nothing wrong with that. But when everybody shoots down ideas, even if they are far-fetched, it really ruins the atmosphere and makes this place boring as hell. Liven up a little...just play along with the rest of us until he actually signs with another team.

 

Berrnie said that he would move over if Beltran signed. The only thing is I dont know where Bernie moves.

If the yanks pick up the option on Lieber's contract, they're on the books for $182M -- they still need a 2B, 1B/DH(if they don't sign beltran) and another SP. They're going to be over $200M next season.
