It still is a strong bet that the Twins will sign Kansas City free agent Joe Randa to replace Koskie at third base for a salary in the $1.75 million range.

Wtf, i know every one wants crede to have another shot and all but $1.75 million is pretty damn cheap for randa.

I wish Randa would end up in the NL, because he seems to always hurt the Sox, but I'd rather have Crede.

Agent Casey Close said the Red Sox have entered the running for Eric Milton.

Besides the Red Sox, the teams competing for Milton include the Cardinals, Dodgers, Indians, Angels and Marlins, Close said. The Red Sox haven't made an offer, and we'd be very surprised if they signed such an overrated pitcher. Dec. 17 - 4:41 am et

I love when rotoworld makes fun of players or moves that teams make.

I can no longer take Jerry Reinsdorf. Can someone please start a sellthesox.com website or something. Baseball is not supposed to be abusiness. Owners who spend money win. This is Chicago. Chicago. Detroit is going to outspend us. Detroit. I have said for a while now the best thing for the sox would be jr to have a cancer scare or something ( just a scare, i don't wish anything really bad for anyone.) With the team as is we are average. How much longer can we deal with this? I'm 24 but feel like 54 in sox years.

Baseball is a business no matter if you want to believe it or not.

The Red Sox trying to enter the Milton bidding could be possible good news for the White Sox in regards to our chances at signing Clement. Who knows, trying to be optimistic!

Antonio Alfonseca flunked his physical with the Marlins after doctors found "a significant herniation" to a disk in the pitcher's lower back. Alfonseca underwent season-ending surgery in 2001 to repair a herniated disk in the same area, and the pitcher's agent said Thursday that another operation might be required to fix this problem. As a result, the Marlins have withdrawn the two-year, $4.75 million contract. He's now being offered an incentive-laden one-year deal. Dec. 17 - 4:59 am et

Placido Polanco is an appealing choice for the Cardinals at second base, but a source said his asking price has gone up in recent days. Two other second-base candidates, Cleveland's Ronnie Belliard and Baltimore's Jerry Hairston Jr., will become free agents next week, if, as expected, they aren't tendered a contract offer by their teams. If this is the case we definitely need to get one or the other to platoon with willie.

Even if he were to change his business approach following an illness, Reinsdorf would have to convince shareholders the benefit of investing more money into this club. Convincing shareholders to increase their investments without any proof of equal (at the least) returns is useless. His direct role is limited to minority share holder and chairman of the board.

The sox need a vet who can play at least 2 of 3 IF spots--3b, SS and 2b.

I'd say welcome to soxtalk, but not with a post like that..... ugh

Are you kidding me with that?

I remember Belliard making ungodly plays against us last year, ranging way into the outfield and taking away hits. I would think he made an impression on KW and Ozzie. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox make a run at him.

He who said the Indians were definitely going to resign him. ;)

I'm going to doubt that this one gets through.

Feeling any different?

I have nothing to say I really just wanted to be reply #1000

I still think he will be on the indians next year. But if not he is not they should take a look at him.

He has played 3rd before. Not alot, but he has.

I watched a late season series between the Twins and the Indians at the Metrodome this year and Belliard looked horrible. He must have made at least 3 completely unaccpetable baserunning mistakes. I'm not sure he's the kind of guy we want, plus he's got a little potbelly. Not the sign of the hardworking player Ozzie likes.

After locking up Juan Uribe, the White Sox are now trying to sign Aaron Rowand and Timo Perez to multiyear deals. Perez should be a candidate to be non-tendered, but it looks like he's staying in Chicago. Rowand will start in either left or center next season after the Scott Podsednik acquisition. The White Sox seem to realize that Rowand is the better center fielder, but they also know he has more experience in a corner and they think that moving him out of center would help him stay healthy. Rob Mackowiak, Brian Meadows and Daryle Ward are in danger of being non-tendered by the Pirates if they don't agree to contracts before the arbitration deadline. As a first-time arbitration-eligible player, Mackowiak is probably safe. Meadows and Ward aren't. Dec. 18 - 3:57 am et

Here is what Mackowiak has going for him:

- From the Chicagoland area

- Grew up a Sox fan

- Singledhandedly beat the Cubs three times in 2 days!

- Can play OF/3B/2B

- Powerful left-handed bat off the bench

Mariners GM Bill Bavasi indicated yesterday that Jeremy Reed would enter spring training as the favorite to play center field.

That's the way it should be. Reed's addition to the starting lineup would put Randy Winn in left field and Raul Ibanez at DH. Bucky Jacobsen could get starts in place of Reed and Ibanez against left-handers. Dec. 18 - 4:03

Nice to hear.

He was born in oak lawn and went to oak lawn highschool. A few of my cousins graduated with him.

Would have been a lot better off saving the money and Timo and using it in a deal to sign Mackowiak if he's non-tendered. He could fill in at 3b against tough righties on occasion. But of course, KW would never let one of his favorite guys go.

Royals to non tender Asencio;

Miguel Asencio is likely to be non-tendered after refusing to accept the Royals' offer for 2005.

Asencio has been slow to recover from Tommy John surgery, and it's uncertain whether he'll ready for the start of the season. The Royals would like to have him back, but not for much more than the minimum.

He has a 1.43 G/F ratio in his short major league career so far.

Wow, Rob would be an excellent pickup, imo. He can play a bunch of different positions and is a solid left handed bat.
