Damn Burnett would be a nice addition to our rotation, even though he hasn't got the best reputation in the clubhouse. If he's healthy for 3 seasons, $21 million is a steal compared to the likes of Benson @ 22 mill.

Has anyone heard the rumors about the Sox trading Harris, Cotts, and Borchard for the Orioles BJ Ryan?  My buddy came into my weekly poker game last night saying he heard it on ESPN Radio 1000.  He may have misheard it, but it is an interesting possibility for the sox.

It would be surprising to see Balt. doing something like this, esp as their pitching is horrible.[though last yr's deal of their #5 prospect for Jason Grimsley shows they're capable of being stupid] They should get a lot more than those 3 guys. Balt. could only use Cotts. If it could land them Cotts and another bullpen arm like Munoz, Diaz or Adkins, or a SP, then maybe.

The latest Maggs rumor deal is insane.

05 - 12M, 06 - 15M, 07 - 12M, 08 - 15M, 09 - 18M

(option years) 10 - 15M/3M, 11 - 15M

 

Pretty nasty yes? Oh but there's more ..

Basically if Maggs plays a full season in 09, 10 is guaranteed at 18M. If he plays a full season in 10, 11 is guaranteed at 15M.

 

So basically if Maggs is healthy in the later part of this deal it amounts to a

105M/7yr deal. Just a few dollars short of Beltran. It says nothing about clauses for dl time but you'd have to imagine that at least that is still in there.

 

So the big question is if Maggs is healthy is he worth any where near 105/7? What impact will this have on future deals? Do any teams have any hope of being able to sign their own players or will everyone opt for FA now?

 

This is by far the worst deal of the off-season. Illich should be ashamed of himself. He's obviously bored w/out his Red Wings.

I don't blame the Twins. If Santana continues to perform at an 11-12M/yr level then there's no way the Twins will be able to match the top 6 $ spenders (NY(2), Bos, LOS, Bal, Ana). If the Twins offer 4 yrs, some other team will offer 5/6. They are better off making use of the arbitration yrs.

After signing RH Carlos Silva to a 5.05M/2yr deal + mut 07 opt the Twins are rumored to have offered 40/4yr + 5th yr opt to Santana. Santana is rumored to be wanting a Halladay like contract of 42/4yr. Santana is seeking 6.8M & the Twins are offering 5M in arbit this year.

 

Wow! That's a real nice deal for Silva. That might be enough to afford them the extra few million to get Santana signed. Bad news for Sox fans

Great setup man, not as great a closer. I like Dotel though. He seems to similar to Hawkins though. What helped Dotel in Houston was the fact that Wagner was from the other side of the mound.

FWIW, Bruce Levine on AM 1000 this am said the Cubs may be interested in Dotel and Danys Baez, both of whom are making a lot of cash and may be on the market, and could use some of the players they've gotten for Sosa and Farnsworth. [it could have some bearing for the sox at the trade deadline, if someone from the sox gets hurt]

I can't recall how bad the HR's were that Farns gave up last year but some analysts seem to think he will do much better at Comerica than Wrigley.

It's this easy. Wrigley is a hitters park comerica not so much. A monkey could say that and most likely be correct. This is an odd year and he will probally be great wherever he pitches for some reason.

Levine didn't mention the sox, only the Cubs. I said it could have some bearing on the sox plans, if these guys are available come the trading deadline and the sox need help [due to injury, ineffectiveness etc]. I think Urbina would be a more likely target for the sox if they needed help. With the uncertainty surrounding Urbina's mom, few teams want to pay a question mark $4 + mill

Cliff Floyd has seemed to fall of the face of the earth. At least baseball wise, I never hear about him anymore.

Lohse won 2.4M in arbitration but Santana is still rumored to sign a multi-year deal before his hearing date.

 

I still can't believe Silva signed for what he did to avoid arbitration. Lohse might have more potential than most 4/5's but he's yet to show it. I'd put my $ on Garland emerging as a 2/3 before Lohse will.

Yeah, I've never been impressed with Lohse. I'd take Garland too.
