November 21, 200421 yr Found this tonight on Redmond from the Sotuh Florida Sun Sentinel, Marlins free agent catcher Mike Redmond has received eight contract offers. None are from the only organization he's known. Redmond has likely played his last game for the Marlins, who signed him as a non-drafted free agent in 1992. Since their initial conversation two weeks ago with Joe Urbon, Redmond's agent, the Marlins have not made further contact. Redmond is mulling one- to two-year offers that would pay him more annually than the $840,000 he earned last season. The Phillies are one of at least two National League East teams in the mix, but several American League clubs also have expressed interest. Now this is purely speculation, but we are in the market for a catcher, and probably this is the type of guy we could target.
November 21, 200421 yr 3 questions: 1.Can he call a good game? 2.Can he throw out runners? 3.Can he hit more than .230?? If the answer to these questions is "yes",go for it.
November 21, 200421 yr 3 questions: 1.Can he call a good game? 2.Can he throw out runners? 3.Can he hit more than .230?? If the answer to these questions is "yes",go for it. YES NO NO
November 21, 200421 yr Mike Redmond is historically a terrific hitter vs lhp. That would benefit the Sox greatly within the AL central.
November 21, 200421 yr I'd be a fan of picking up Mike Redmond for the right price. Hit .256 last year and I think you would at least see him duplicate those numbers, but he could even have a little increase. No shock the Marlins aren't interested in him considering they have LoDuca.
November 24, 200421 yr Redmond to the Twins, 2 year contract, the Score reported at 10:20 this morning.
November 24, 200421 yr Redmond to the Twins, 2 year contract, the Score reported at 10:20 this morning. first juan castro and now redmond. we're in big trouble!
November 24, 200421 yr Don't cheap out on this one Kenny, lets make it happen. Does Kendall have a no-trade clause?
November 24, 200421 yr Redmond to the Twins, 2 year contract, the Score reported at 10:20 this morning. Maybe they're dumping Mauer?
November 24, 200421 yr Does Kendall have a no-trade clause? Given the choice between Pittsburgh and Chicago's southside, I can't imagine him wanting to stay in the Steel City.
November 24, 200421 yr The Twins are also expected to announce today they've reached agreement with Florida free-agent catcher Mike Redmond on a two-year deal worth almost $2 million. That likely signals the end of their one-year relationship with Blanco, a major contributor to last season's divisional championship after starter Joe Mauer was sidelined most of the season by a knee injury. The Twins had offered Blanco, a free agent, $1.8 million for two years. He Gawn.
November 25, 200421 yr Given the choice between Pittsburgh and Chicago's southside, I can't imagine him wanting to stay in the Steel City. He'd probably choose Oakland over Chicago though.
November 25, 200421 yr This is obviously a sign that Minny thinks Mauer is going to be able to be their starting catcher, which is a huge upgrade over anyone they were looking at signing. Mauer, Redmond looks good to me.
November 25, 200421 yr Heard Mauer as a Catcher is Toast. Head his knee injury was going to avoid him to catch. Heard they're going to look at him at 3rd and the outfield
November 25, 200421 yr Heard Mauer as a Catcher is Toast. Head his knee injury was going to avoid him to catch. Heard they're going to look at him at 3rd and the outfield He will catch next year for them, at least for part of the year.
November 25, 200421 yr He will catch next year for them, at least for part of the year. Take it for what it's worth. I read it on a blog somewhere
November 25, 200421 yr Author Mauer can DH if they need him to, kind of like Matt LeCroy, the Twinkies will find a way to get him into the lineup somehow.
November 25, 200421 yr I know one thing, they've signed Redmond and let Borders/Blanco walk, so with me reading between the lines it makes me think the rumors of him never catching again are false.
November 25, 200421 yr Now that Kendall appears out of the picture, watch for the Sox to make a big effort to get Henry Blanco. He can't hit but his defense is excellent and he shuts down the running game. In fact, I would be surprised if the White Sox don't sign him. He fits what they need.
