The Yankees tried to re-sign Cairo, but talks broke down at the end. He could end up as a starter for the Cardinals or White Sox, and several teams will be interested in him as a utilityman.

I mentioned him in another thread, he'd be an excellent fit as the starting 2b or the utility guy.

I swear someone mentioned him reupping with the Yanks a week back. Anyway he would be a good pickup.

Beck had a thread a few weeks ago about Cairo -- I THink little Egypt would be a good fit.

I'll take him in a heartbeat. Rather have him as another bat on the bench, but of course he have a hole at 2nd. Why not.

Cairo wouldn't be a bad pickup. I was impressed with his play/approach in the playoffs.

 

ideally, if I were to replace Harris, I'd like to get someone who has proven himself over the years, but I'm assuming his asking price would be pretty low and with Uribe likely being the starting shortstop, it would be a solid move.

If the Sox are set having Uribe at SS, Cairo seems like the best bet for veteran UTL guy. It would allow Willie to hit vs RHP, and give rests for SS and 3B.

no doubt. but STL should be very interested as well. They want someone cheap for 2b. The fact he was there, though could work against them

The fact also that Philly offered Placido Polanco arbitration could make the Boston Red Sox shy away from him. Then that could possily leave a market of the Sox and St. Louis for Polanco and Cairo, although no doubt other teams like Cincinatti could look at one of em for sure.

cairo is a solid player i think especially if he comes off the bench that would be an awesome bench bat

FWIW, here are Cairo's numbers vs. LHP's this past season (damn good numbers, might I add) -- .336 AVG, .377 OBP, .822 OPS. If he'd be willing to platoon with Harris, I'd definitely welcome the move. He and Harris would be a damn good two-headed monster at second base, one that could be our leadoff hitter, too.

If you can get a player like Cairo for under two million, I don't see the problem with it. Would you be happier if we offered Cairo ten million per season, just so JR can say that he opened up the wallet? Would that make you happy?

I doubt he will platoon with anyone, especially willie harris. From what i have heard he is looking for a starting job, somewhere, anywhere.

well, OG hates willie, so cairo would be playing all the time. cairo was ok last year but most of his career has been a suckfest.
