December 11, 200421 yr I'd like to see the Sox sign SS Alex Gonzalez, the former Cub. He has a good arm, some power and would allow Uribe to move to 2B. I think he would be a cheap signing as well. Also, how about Omar Daal as a fifth starter?
December 11, 200421 yr PASS ON BOTH OF THEM... ALEX GONZALEZ??? The only Alex Gonzalez i would looks at is the one in Florida
December 11, 200421 yr We dont need a shortstop. Uribe played well there. What we need is a second baseman. If we can trade with Florida, I want Luis Castillo.

December 11, 200421 yr :puke Alex Gonzalez If it came down to him or Uribe, I'd take Uribe every day of the week. AGonz flat out sucks, to put it lightly.
December 11, 200421 yr Alex Gonzalez has defensive problems at shortstop. Renteria or Cabrera would be a better option at SS if they wanted to move Uribe to a different position.
December 11, 200421 yr Yes they would, but are buddy Wallin is talking about brining in a cheap replacment to fill the role, which is what the Sox would most likely do, but AGone is the wrong choice for the job, just like all of you said, its exactly what the Sox are trying to get away from. Yeah it's a biiiig if. Uribe at short and a cheap 2b would be fine with me. They can platoon Willie at 2b while Raines helps him with his base stealing.
December 11, 200421 yr You guys are forgetting, Uribe can play second base! We can sign a short stop and have Uribe play second base, he was last years Tony Graffanino. Uribe is not just a shortstop.
December 11, 200421 yr A guy like this won't play everyday, which would mean that the signing wouldn't bother me. I would love the extra experienced depth, and the fact that we could work the match ups a little better. Plus isn't this the AGon with the arm?
December 11, 200421 yr I'd pass on both. I think the Sox need to make a splash and land one more very good starter. After that I think I'd rather see Barry Larkin then Alex Gonzalez. Gonzalez doesn't quite have good range and he strikes out way too much for my liking.

Renteria or Cabrera would be a better option at SS if they wanted to move Uribe to a different position. you must be rating his whole defensive career on 1 play in the playoffs but if you look in the same year im pretty sure he had the best fielding percentage of all SS's.... he might not have some awesome jose valentin range but he does good enuf and doesnt make errors.
December 11, 200421 yr I know Uribe can play 2b. But, he is a better SS IMO. It's amazing how few people notice this. That cannon of an arm makes him more valuable at SS, farter away from first. His range at 2nd and short is very simillar.
