December 12, 200421 yr Sure he's out of the AL...but what if the best deal was in the AL...at least think about getting him out of the division before getting him out of the league. I know that the Sox/Cardinals/Braves/Orioles all could have put up better offers...which makes you wonder why the Braves and Cardinals(both in the NL) didn't get considered over the Dodgers?? Though a deal with those teams can still happen cuz of the current hold up or whatever is causing this deal not to be done. Beane better hope a deal like this doesn't happen cuz he can get so much more. I'm not so sure about that, teams don't want to overpay for a one yr rental either(that's why we got Colon for so cheap). Remember, everybody knows that Hudson is available and nothing is stopping them(except themselves) from offering more, this may just be the best package offered for him. It's also obvious that Beane doesn't want salary back which would rule out the Sox offering Lee or Konerko but it might explain why we're hearing about talks with the BJays and DRays.

I don't recall them at the moment though.
December 12, 200421 yr Is kent playing 1st? If Cora is moved he will play 2nd. But its pretty much a guarantee he'll play 1st. The Dodgers have also tossed out the idea of him playing 3rd but its just something they'll use for leverage with Boras and Beltre. Seems like they can get Koskie if they want him, but they still are trying to get Beltre and it probably means they miss out on the Koskmeister.

One major different, Montreal hasn't been competing for a division title/wild card/world series year in and year out. So worse case play him and if you fall out of the race deal him for a ransom then or take your draft picks for him.

That's stupid imo, they'd be much better off with Koskie than throwing all that $$$$ at Beltre. Sounds like the type of move the old GM would make.

Remember, thats just whats being rumored. And I tend to agree, although Beltre is a phenomenal player and if he put up numbers like he did this past season (he's more then capable of it) then he's well worth the money.

Come to think of it, this may not even be Beane's call.

He's worth 7yrs $90 mil? I guess we'll agree to disagree on that.
December 12, 200421 yr He's worth 7yrs $90 mil? I guess we'll agree to disagree on that. No, but I'd go 5 yr 65 mill or so. Sure its a chance, but he was absolutely monster last season. Put him in the Cell last season and he may just hit 60 hr's.
December 12, 200421 yr The A's owners are cheap though, cheap cheap cheap. Come to think of it, this may not even be Beane's call. Well it was also Beane's call to pick up Kendall, even though payroll was semi close to a wash on the deal, still they upped the roll.
December 12, 200421 yr it may not be beanes call to move hudson...but i think it would be a smart idea to make it beanes call to say who the A's get in return for Hudson.

December 12, 200421 yr For those thinking its not done, we should know in about 20 minutes. The Dodgers called for a 4 O'Clock press conference.
December 12, 200421 yr Well I guess we can settle for Vazquez...though I really think Hudson is that much better....
December 12, 200421 yr I think this deal is official now. Or, is about to be official (via the San Jose Mercury News). The four o'clock press conference should confirm the deal.
December 12, 200421 yr Four o'clock press conferences usually mean four o'clock trades. This deal is done. Look elsewhere Kenny. EDIT: All of a sudden, the A's no longer have one of the most intimidating rotations in the AL. The Big 3 have just become the Suspect 2 (While Mulder is a true ace, I think Zito spooked some people last year).
December 12, 200421 yr look for another prospect(lower level) to be included to complete the deal -- I think this may have been the hang up... maybe a PTBNL

If Zito and Mulder continue to struggle, nobody will be asking BB for a sequel to Moneyball.
December 13, 200421 yr Jason, do you get the press conference from where you live? Hear anything yet? Some people are speculating it could be another FA signing, Lowe and Clement are names that I'm hearing, along with Huddy... EDIT: Ouch, on the Dodger board, they're saying that there was no press conference. A let-up for a lot of people on that board... Imagine if reports had us landing Hudson, how restless we'd be. I tell ya, I wouldn't leave my computer till I found out if he was a Sock or not...
December 13, 200421 yr Scanned through the stations and have heard nothing but football talk thus far. Chargers talk on one station, Raiders on the other.
December 13, 200421 yr I have seen nothing official yet but E. Jackson is a stud NO pitcher in Sox minors is close to him with that said Hudson should of brought more.

December 13, 200421 yr Bmac is just as good if into better, and i am saying that without being bias. Jackson was #1 ranked all of baseball as pitching prospect BMAC is not even in team picture.
