I just finished "Throne of Blood" by one of the cinematic masters, Akira Kurosawa. If you're a fan of Shakespeare, then you'll enjoy this movie even more. It is the plot of Macbeth put into feudal Japan. Toshiro Mifune brings home another awesome portrayal of Taketori Washizu. So f***ing awesome. :headbang :headbang :headbang

Walking Tall (1973). Don't see the one with the Rock because it sucks balls. At least this one sticks a bit more to the original story of Sheriff Buford Pusser about whom the movie is based. It wasn't a great film but definitely better than some of the pantloads put out in theaters now. 6/10

The Oscar nominees are out. 'Aviator' is up for best everything. Is it really that good, or are they just in love with Scorsese and DiCaprio. I gotta tell you, I hated 'Gangs of New York' and it was nominated also.

For the second year in a row Paul Giamatti gets snubbed from the Best Actor category. I know Foxx will probably win anyways but Giamatti should have been in over Eastwood or Cheadle.

I finally saw Hero. Damn was that a really good movie. Highly recommend it. Some really cool martial art scenes and a pretty good story.

Warning, you better be able to read if you see the movie though cause it is in subscripts. Its a Japanese movie.

You got an 'F' in English?? Bobby, you speak English...

I'm probably going to see Closer sometime soon, it just comes out here today. Of course having Natalie Portman in it doesn't hurt. :notworthy

I would place this up with "Halloween" and "Escape From New York" as Carpenter's best work.

Not in the top 3. His remake of The Thing, poor man's Alien though it was, is still up there on the intensity scale and has to be considered superior to Precinct 13.

Flaax, what about "They Live"? "I came to kick ass and chew bubble gum...and I'm all out of gum."

Well, while Rowdy Roddy Piper certainly is a sign of quality B-movie cinematic entartainment, I'd have to put they live a little further down on the list of Carpenter offerings. I'd put Vampires, Prince of Darkness, and even The Fog (and I think I'm the only person who ever say that film) above They Live. I've not yet seen Ghosts of Mars so I don't know how that compares.

Maybe it's a guilty pleasure admission, but I think one of Carpenter's best films - and one that shows he's got some depth - is the now near-cult status action/comedy Big Trouble In Little China. The guy put Kurt Russell to work for a while there, didn't he? Then there was Starman which I really disliked.

i thought ghosts of mars was a terrible movie....but that's my opinion..

I heard as much and that's why I've not seen it.

Has anyone seen Maria Full of Grace?

I've seen Will and Grace, does that count? ;)

Yeah, good stuff. Did you enjoy it?

Just finished "Ikiru" (1952) -- absolutely breathtaking. That movie was so excellently done. Definite must see.

I just watched George Romero's "Bruiser" (2000). Holy sweet goddamn was I disappointed. Absolutely terrible.

Tell Me Something (1999). Psychological thriller from Korea. If you're a fan of "Seven" or the "Usual Suspects" then you definitely need to check this movie out. It was a little bit longer than it should have been but still a very definite rental if you're not turned off by a little blood/gore.

Just finished the classic spaghetti western "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" (1966). :headbang :headbang Such a great movie...3 hours long but f***ing great.

Saw Maria Full of Grace--really an incredible movie. Definitely made me rethink my lifelong dream of being a drug mule. Anyway, highly recommend, the lady that plays Maria was really amazing...

Hollow Point(?) donald sutherland

very cool.

Saw Napleon Dynamite and it SUCKED. I was so disappointed.
