QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Dec 31, 2004 -> 07:51 AM)   The problem with Willie wasn't his OBP or average. It was mainly two things. 1 - He was too god damn inconsistent, 5 for 5 one night, and then 0 for

y does everyone want grudzilanek, hes not that good ive watched the cubs when there was nothing else on and he doesn't impress me plus hes up their in age

cause he plays hard and does the little things and a solid defender :D

Also come up with BIG hit in the CLUTCH

Agree on this completely.

His range is very very limited. He couldn't play SS anymore and that's a key for whomever the Sox bring in.

And you're right, he is definitely getting up there age wise.

your right about his range but he still is better than willie .

Range and defense in general are not Harris's problems at all. Defensively he is a very good 2B. His problem lies in consistancy at the plate (5-5 one day then 0-15 over his next 3 games) and his fear of stealing bases.

According to KW Willie is the next coming of Carlos Lee :rolly

What are you talking about, that made no sense.

What are you talking about, that made no sense.

Last year, when KW failed to secure a 2b going into the 04 season, he made a comment about Harris comparing him to Carlos Lee, and saying that people didn't want to think CLEE could handle the job and now he is a star.

And just out of curiousity, for how many seasons were people saying that Carlos Lee was a bust, he should be traded, and couldn't put up numbers for more than a half season?

I thik it is time to let the Polanco thing go. He is not a free agent and we are not going to give up young talent to aquire a $4 mm platoon player. Carl Everret is already filling that role.

Yeah, but Lee showed improvements.. when has harris? The only reason in years past that Harris was given chance after chance, only to continue to fail. Blame it on being yanked out of the lineup..so was Rowand and Uribe yet they were able to perform when they were there during the early part of the season.

I don't know why everyone is so ancy to get a different 2B. Harris has speed, good range and a good glove. He finished with a .262 average, which is respectable for his first full year. Yes he was inconsistent but who wasn't on this team? I really think he has potential and will prove naysayers wrong this year.

between willie and garland i think the sox have the market cornered on frustrating potential.

anyhow, if willie is going to get a shot he needs to get a shot. you stick him in the line-up and leave him there, then watch your results and make a decision. the only problem with this is i don't think ozzie has the patience to approach it this way.

Don't forget Borchard as well!!

Willie I believe had the 2nd or 3rd highest OBP on the team last year. I also believe his numbers would have been even better if he wasn't benched in the middle of a hot streak when Valentin came off the DL.

I'm all for letting Willie stay at 2nd base. You have to leave him in the lineup everyday to see what he's capable of doing.

Yeah, but Lee showed improvements.. when has harris?

2003

Avg: .204

OBP: .259

RF: 3.08

2004:

Avg: .262

OBP: 343

RF: 4.20

looks like improvement to me. and if you wanna argue that he didn't have enough at-bats prior to '04 to put much stock in those numbers--which he probably didn't--then by the same token, you can't claim to have a large enough sample size to make judgments or bulls*** claims about his improvement (or lack thereof).

i understand peeps' qualms about willie, and yes there're a lot of questions and things to dislike about him, and yes i'll be happy to upgrade if there's someone available, but it's not like dude's a total bum.

That is improvement. We have to remember Willie is still young and still has time to improve.

You'll get your two-bagger. Kenny wants one more piece of the puzzle (a middle infielder) before packing up and calling it an off-season.

Hang in there. Help is on the way.

Levine just said on AM 1000 that the Sox are still intersted in the Japanese 2nd baseman

anything is an upgrade over harris, maybe KW isn't as dumb as we all think. Make the right decsion Kenny, cut the losses of Harris.

:rolly I'm waiting for Kenny to sign Iguci and for you to call it a bad move.
