toasty
I suspect that the sox, even if they sign ajp or iguchi, they will try to keep it under wraps until soxfest... you know how they like to open things with a bang to make the peeps happy! ... just hope they continue the tradition
AngelasDaddy0427
I just hope that us lowballing AJ is just spin coming from the cubune. Either you offer the man what he's worth or don't bother!

Either you offer the man what he's worth or don't bother! How are we low balling him? Do you think you just give a player what he wants right away? You have to negotiate with them first. Everyone is freaking out that we offered him less so far and i am willing to bet we will offer him something better before it is all over. Bingo, it's negotiating, you don't start off with your best offer.

Either you offer the man what he's worth or don't bother! The guy was non-tendered, so why should we pay him above and beyond what other teams are looking to sign him for? If we want Iguchi and AJ, money has to work out. Besides, if our offer was insulting, why are we the favorites to sign him. He's probably just mulling over what he wants to do. But then there's the history of this org low balling one of their "Targets" and then never coming back with a sufficient counteroffer. Matt Clement comes to mind as a recent example. Matt Clement comes to mind as a recent example. Wouldn't you say other teams did that in the Clement signing phase though? The Red Sox only jumped in at the last minute with a big offer after Pedro left for New York, and the Angels were really the only other team to offer more than $24 million over 3 years. Frankly, not signing Clement has probably worked out better for us, especially if we wind up with Iguchi and / or Pierzynski.

The Sox may have offered more money per year to Vizquel, but they weren't willing to give him a 3 year deal which is what he wanted. I'd like to see the comparisons 3 years from now if we do end up signing Iguchi instead on a 3 year deal.

Well why not let's just move on to every single damn player that the Sox have ever talked about wanting to get.. but didn't. I mean c'mon.. let's not stop while we're rolling. Let's b**** and moan about all of them.. and the ones that were traded... or retired also. Obviously the Sox lowballed them as well. Good grief.. do you have any concept of what a budget is..?? Vizquel. Ok. Every review I read of that signing said the Giants will end up regretting it down the road. So, if you want the Sox to overpay for too long, then yes ... they "lowballed" Vizquel. Chisoxfn
In reference to the Sox waiting till Soxfest to announce something I find it highly unlikely as well as highly stupid. If they have two guys who have agreed to deals and are just waiting till Soxfest to ink them then assuming those guys have yet to sign the contract then the Sox are really risking another team coming in and snagging what they thought they had. Now if they can somehow be sly and sign both of them to deals or whoever the hell they are looking at to a deal and keep it quiet till Soxfest more power to them I guess. But I highly doubt it. Trust me, if the Sox were to sign Pyrz or someone else quality right now that buzz would carry over to fest.

Kenny Lofton is the last one I remember. And I think I was the only one in the whole place who booed.
aboz56
I would have booed for Lofton as well, that old guy is a complete NAG. Why they'd choose to unveil him at Soxfest is beyond me.
