Ben Davis to the Dodgers?

Featured Replies

So basically were going to dump one million bucks which isnt a bad thing, and add a ptbnl, alright and then we are going to call Burke back up. Maybe we will use that one million to invest in a second basemen? ^_^

Well their better be some kind of a catching prospect thrown in to. I mean if god forbid something happened to AJ then that would leave us with Burke and that's it. I don't think any team with catching depth as pathetic as ours can afford to trade their backup catcher. Do the Dodgers have another backup they can give us?

At this point can you name me ANY other back-up catcher in the AL. other than the Molina brothers in Anaheim or is that the (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim)_ i can't think of another back-up catcher. I wouldn't call the Sox catching depth pathetic. i think it's about the same as every other team..unless you are willing to call them all pathetic.

Ben Davis is far too valuable as a backup. Yes, I said it.

If AJP goes down, at least we have a guy with major league ability and a good attitude. I don't think the Sox are in any position to trade the backup catcher unless there is some kind of fantastic return.

Quick question: Anybody familiar with the Dodgers farm system? What's the middle infield situation?

I like Izturis, but they would never give him up, and not for Davis anyways.

This doesn't make much sense considering the Sox have Burke off the 40 right now. They'd of never risked that had they been considering dealing Ben.

My guess is that its unlikely, but if Depodesta gives up a potential prospect then you may see it happen. Also if it gives Kenny the whiggle room he wants to bring in another infielder then I oculd see it happening.

I'm going to throw out the name Joey Thurston.

That's a good call. Any thoughts/ opinions on him?

Maybe we can get Kaz Ishii that way if Hernandez goes down he can step in as the 5th starter..

I do have a question about thurston whihc i never understood. Why did he repeat triple a three time? His numbers got worse each time.

Ishii would make a great long lefty out of the pen too. It could also free up a Marte for Castillo deal with FLA.

Eh, i am not a fan of pitchers that cannot find the strike zone. Especially when they have to pitch for us at out home park. I think he would get rocked here.

Thurston was once a big time prospect, wasn't he?

Thurston for Davis wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit. Then we have Burke be the backup(even though that would be dumb, having removed him from the 40-man and all only to put him back on the 40-man), and we get a low-risk, high-reward guy in Thurston.

Bring in a catching vet as a NRI during ST...maybe sign him to a minor league deal...something like that. We could work something out.

id rather have an arm for the bullpen than a second basemen, thurston wasnt all that good anyways. I say just dump off the one million and get two half way decent pitching prospects

the only type of prospects Ben Davis will give us are ones like Joe Borchard...

thats why we have a pitching coach, too help ishii find the strike zone, if he can

I have a hard time believing this one -- LA just signed Paul "can't hit" Bako. They also have a guy named David Ross who will compete for P-time,and traded for minor league hyped Navarro. Exactly how many "potentially" good catchers do they need? :huh

I would not count on don cooper helping anyone.

You are grossly underestmating the value of Davis. He simply has not had enough regular ab's in the ML's to consider a bust yet. I liken his value to that of Jiminez' when the Sox got him. As a prospect he was highly rated.

But in limited capacity he didn't get it done. Now with regular ab's at CIN

he's an everyday player.

Davis is worth at least what we gave up to get Jiminez at the time.

Jimenez sucks.

He was actually a good player, it's just his attitude and lazyness really made him look bad.

That's why he sucks. He's got all the talent in the world and he's a decent offensive player however he's an awful and lazy defender, and a terrible baserunner, he's just an idiot. I don't think you can win with guys with D'angelo on your team, he's just a dumb ball player.

Well with contract davis just signed it could help sox if they buyout contract and give us cash in return. Meaning that cash could go to iguchi

Ya wite, Thurston was the reason the Dodgers dealt Grudz to the Cubs a few years back. Unfortunately Thurston didn't excel like the Dodgers expected that year, but he has proved himself in AAA and has very good speed.

Solid 2nd base prospect if you ask me and at worse is a good depth move for the minors. However, I don't see the Sox giving up Davis after they just designated Burke for assignment.

I guess they didn't have time to work out a deal instead of designating Burke but they definately took a shot. Personally I'd just as well have Burke backing up but the Sox will be in trouble if Pyrz gets hurt, and they don't have Davis.

that sounds better than a player, but maybe we could get money and a double a prospect ;)

How about Brett Mayne as a backup?

umm no, were better off with burke, but what doesnt make sense is why did we send him down to AAA when we might trade davis :huh
