I was reading on whitesox.com about the pitching staff and caught this line buried in an article

 

Rauch and Wright are no longer with the White Sox, Schoeneweis signed on as a free agent with Toronto and Diaz reportedly has drawn interest from a team in Japan

 

I take it they are talking about Felix Diaz, right? Has anyone else heard anymore on this????

IIRC that was old news. Never heard anything else about it though.

KW would have to be a complete moron to let him just walk away. He's the closest thing we have to a major league ready pitcher in our minor league staff. We can't afford to just have him just go off to Japan.

Plus is it even possible.

I sure hope he doesn't leave he can still bring something to the team this year should something happen to one of the starters

I think it would be a good thing for diaz. The level of play is below that of MLB but above AAA where he dominates.

i think thats from last year because i heard that last year during spring training. Id say if there was a way where he would still be ours but could pitch a year there it would be sweet.

I would agree but we don't have a 6th starter besides him. Cotts won't be stretched out and we don't have any other ready options, as previously stated

Isn't he under contract with the Sox? I mean if we control him then he can't just ditch us and head off to Japan? I mean they'd have to release him and I can't see KW being that stupid.

well if i remember right last year Diaz said he wanted to stay here and make the big leagues and im assuming that hasnt changed. But if Diaz really wanted to play in Japan and i was GM i would let him i mean if you arent going to give a guy a guranteed spot on the major league team let him go to japan to further his career

So if you were GM you'd let the closest pitcher we have to the majors just walk away. Keep in mind Grilli is far from locked up right now. I don't know who else we have.

well idonno about you but there is a little guy named Brandon Mccarthy who if one of our starters went down mid-season i wouldnt hesitate to call up b4 Felix Diaz. Also if cotts is starting at triple A i wouldnt mind him and even though he was rocketed arnie munoz is always an option. and right now we have Dustin hermason who i think right now is our 6th starter option ahead of diaz

I'd prefer B-Mac to get 1 more year of minor league work. If he puts up good numbers down at Birmingham (which he should), promote him to Charlotte for the rest of the year. There's no need to rush him at this point.

im not saying bringing him up for the sake of it im saying incase of injury i wouldnt mind him getting some major league experiance. Felix Diaz i think will be a successful bullpen pitcher but not a starter unless he develops another pitch but i do hope he succeeds i enjoy watching him.

What most people don't acknowledge is that by July, the time or year when El Duque might wear out, Dustin will no longer be an option as his arm will be too used to pitching one inning. I'd keep Diaz around because all hands need to be on deck if we are going to try to make the playoffs. I don't think most people outside of board members feel Brandon McCarthy is ready to be a difference maker in a major league rotation. I think that is in 06 at the soonest.

I don't think there is a problem with that. Depth is very important and for once, The Sox have it. I wouldn't give let Felix or Grilli, for that matter go anywhere.

A big time no on McCarthy before Diaz. The guy hasn't even faced AAA competition and we're ready to call him up? Doesn't usually work too well. I liked what I saw (at times) out of Felix.

i personally think AA competetion is more than enuf more of the talent is in AA than in AAA where more old people are that couldnt cut it in the bigs.

There is no room for Brandon at Charlotte anyway. There are at least 6 or 7 guys that could be starters there ahead of him. That might change if B keeps putting up the huge numbers at Bham.
